Abstract: Apparatus (10) according for treating a patient (12) by applying visible light to the body of the patient for stimulating the skin of the patient and producing a therapeutic effect. The apparatus (10) comprises a body (13) enclosing a treatment station (14) at which the patient (12) can be located in an extended condition. In the extended condition, the patient (12) can be upright or recumbent. In the arrangement where the patient is recumbent, the patient is supported on a bed (15) which is transparent to the light used for treatment purposes. The apparatus (10) is able to dispense light therapy to the entire body in a single treatment session. The apparatus (10) includes a plurality of arrays (16) of light emitting diodes (17) configured to provide a therapeutic treatment to the patient (12).
