Patent number: 12021181Abstract: The disclosed technology relates to a battery utilizing an indicator to orient an unopposed portion of a cathode or anode with respect to a battery can, and a tag to generate an electromagnetic field to mitigate or eliminate an electromagnetic field generated by the unopposed portion of the cathode or anode. The battery includes a wound set of layers including a cathode, an anode, and a separator; a can housing the wound set of layers; a lid disposed atop of the can to enclose the wound set of layers within the can; and a tag coupled to the lid. An unopposed portion of the cathode or anode generates a first electromagnetic field. The tag generates a second electromagnetic field to oppose the first electromagnetic field.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2020Date of Patent: June 25, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Katherine I. Pregler, Kyle Tse, Samantha K. Young, Jason W. Brinsfield, Mei Zhang, Charles Greenlee, Kevin R. Richardson, Susheel Teja Gogineni, Ethan L. Huwe, Connor R. Duke, Michael B. Nussbaum, Shawn G. Publication number: 20240038310Abstract: Techniques for protecting non-volatile memory (NVM) from power cycle interruptions during memory operations are disclosed. A power management integrated circuit (PMIC) coupled to a memory circuit with NVM implements the various techniques disclosed. When a power reset signal is asserted to a PMIC, the PMIC may delay initiation of the power reset cycle when it detects that the NVM coupled to the PMIC is active to prevent corruption of the NVM by the power reset cycle. The PMIC may detect the activity level of the NVM based on an activity output signal that indicates whether the NVM is active (e.g., programming or erasing) or inactive.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 26, 2022Publication date: February 1, 2024Inventors: John J. Sullivan, James M. Hollabaugh, Jason W. Brinsfield, Calvin M. Ryan, Andreas Adler

Patent number: 10911863Abstract: This disclosure relates to speakers and more specifically to an array speaker for distributing music uniformly across a room. A number of audio drivers can be radially distributed within a speaker housing so that an output of the drivers is distributed evenly throughout the room. In some embodiments, the exit geometry of the audio drivers can be configured to bounce off a surface supporting the array speaker to improve the distribution of music throughout the room. The array speaker can include a number of vibration isolation elements distributed within a housing of the array speaker. The vibration isolation elements can be configured reduce the strength of forces generated by a subwoofer of the array speaker.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2017Date of Patent: February 2, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Glenn K. Trainer, Rong Liu, Benjamin A. Cousins, Yupin Sun, Jun Qi, Jason W. Brinsfield, Ethan L. Huwe, Craig M. Stanley, Molly J. Anderson, Javier Mendez

Patent number: 10742050Abstract: Simplified interfaces for charging and communication between accessories and docking stations. One example may provide an interface for charging and communication between an accessory and docking station where data and a charging voltage are provided over the same pins. An accessory may determine that it is in a powered docking station by receiving a charging voltage. The accessory may determine that it is in an unpowered docking station by providing a voltage to the unpowered docking station, where the unpowered docking station uses the voltage to power an oscillator. The oscillator signal may be received by the accessory, which may use the presence of the signal to determine that it is in an unpowered docking station.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2015Date of Patent: August 11, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Zachary C. Rich, Daniel S. Naito, Kirill Kalinichev, Jahan C. Minoo, James L. McPeak, Jason W. Brinsfield

Patent number: 9967649Abstract: A case for a pair of wireless earbuds includes a lid and a lid sensor configured to generate a detect signal when the lid is moved from a closed position to an open position. The case further includes circuitry configured to, in response to receiving the detect signal, send a signal to the wireless earbuds to turn them on and to initiate a pairing sequence between the wireless earbuds and an electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2016Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Chandrahas Aralaguppe Chandramohan, Rico L.
