  • Patent number: 8642524
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for controlling soot induced viscosity increase in diesel engines, by using as the diesel engine lubricant an oil formulation comprising a base oil containing about 10 to 80 wt % GTL base stock and/or base oil and/or hydrodewaxed or hydroisomerized/catalytic (or solvent) dewaxed base stock and/or base oil in combination with 20 to 90 wt % conventional Group I petroleum derived base oil, said base oil being further combined with a polymeric viscosity modifier, and to the lubricating oil which effects such control over soot induced viscosity increase.

  • Patent number: 6851414
Abstract: A device and method to extend the useful lubricant life in a diesel engine equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system consisting of placing a chemical filter in an area of relatively higher humidity either in the EGR stream or near the intake manifold. In some cases, placing chemical filters in both locations would be preferred. This device may also be used in combination with a chemical filter placed in the lubricant recirculation system which produces a synergistic effect beyond the individual effects of either component.

  • Publication number: 20040121920
Abstract: This invention relates to a diesel engine lubricant composition comprising a base stock, a dispersant and an antioxidant comprising an oil soluble trinuclear organomolybdenum compound of the generic formula (I): Mo3Sx—(Q), wherein x is from 4 to 10 and Q is a core group, which may be a ligand, and at least one other compound selected from a phenolic and an aminic compound. The composition is capable of controlling the viscosity of the lubricant in the presence of soot and to retain the dispersancy of the dispersant. The compositions of the present invention minimise wear in engines and undesirable emission from exhaust caused by incomplete combustion from vehicles which use diesel engines and lubricants therefor. The combination of antioxidants perform better at controlling soot induced viscosity increase than the individual compounds.

  • Publication number: 20040121919
Abstract: This invention relates to a lubricating oil composition comprising a Group I basestock and an antioxidant comprising an oil soluble trinuclear organomolybdenum compound of the generic formula (1): Mo3Sx-(Q) wherein x is from 4 to 10 and Q is a core group, which may be a ligand, wherein the basestock has a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. (KV100) from about 2 cSt to 50 cSt (2×10−6 to 50×10−6 m2/sec), a saturates content of <90% w/w, an aromatics content of >10% w/w and a sulphur content of >0.03% w/w. The composition has an improved stability when compared with either a Group II, III or IV basestock containing the same antioxidant or a Group I basestock containing a dinuclear molybdenum dithiocarbamate.

  • Patent number: 6689725
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of controlling the soot induced viscosity increase of a diesel engine lubricant composition comprising a base oil and a dispersant, by including in said lubricant composition an effective amount of an antioxidant, characterised in that the antioxidant comprises a dihydrocarbyldithiocarbamate of a metal selected from antimony, bismuth and mixtures thereof. The antioxidant may optionally contain at least one other compound selected from a phenolic and an aminic compound. The method of the present invention improves the performance retention of the dispersant additive, and thus inhibits the soot-induced viscosity increase of the lubricant.
