    Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for decoding multiple sparsely encoded data sequences in a wireless communications network. A received signal carrying multiple sparsely encoded data sequences is decoded by selecting a first plurality of the data sequences and performing multi-user decoding on the received signal to decode the first plurality of data sequences. Other data sequences are treated as noise. The plurality of data sequences is selected to meet a collision threshold for the multi-user decoding. Data sequences may be selected based on a collision contribution and signal quality metrics. A modified received signal is generated to remove signals associated with the multiple sparsely encoded data sequences which have been successfully decoded. The method may be performed for additional iterations to select a new plurality of data sequences, and perform the multi-user decoding on the modified received signal to decode additional data sequences, until a stopping condition is met.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting potentially active user equipment (UE) in a network are provided. A set of potentially active UEs is detected using an iterative method. In a first iteration UE detection is performed using compressed sensing (CS) based on first pilot sequences to detect a first set of potentially active UEs. Channel estimation is then performed for the first set of potentially active UEs. In subsequent iterations, UE detection is performed using CS to detect another set, typically reduced in size, of potentially active UEs using results of the channel estimation from the previous iteration. Channel estimation is then again performed for the new set of potentially active UEs. After the last iteration, the set of potentially active UEs detected in the last iteration is output as the determined set of potentially active UEs along with channel estimates for the set of potentially active UEs determined in last iteration.

    Abstract: A unified frame structure for filter bank multi-carrier (FBMC) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) waveforms may allow FBMC and OFDM frames to be communicated over a common channel without significant inter-frame gaps. The unified frame structure may set an FBMC frame duration to an integer multiple of an OFDM frame element duration to enable alignment of FBMC frames and OFDM frames in the time domain. The unified frame structure may also map control channels in the FBMC and OFDM frames to common resource locations so that the respective control channels are aligned in the time and/or frequency domains. The unified frame structure may also share synchronization channels between FBMC and OFDM frames. Additionally, overhead in an FBMC time division duplexed (TDD) communications channel can be reduced by overlapping time windows appended to FBMC blocks.
