  • Patent number: 5718217
Abstract: A safety device for fireplaces provides a non-flammable apron adjacent to the fireplace opening, the apron being sloped up in a direction away from the fireplace. Thus, logs or embers discharged from the fireplace will engage the apron, and will dissipate their energy in moving up hill. The device has a switch that is closed when the apron is contacted for sounding an alarm. A panel beneath the apron defines a space, and the air in the space will be heated. The heated air is directed into the living space, either by natural or forced convection.

  • Patent number: 4839064
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cleaning cooling tower basins. The apparatus includes a cleaning tool carrying a nozzle for picking up sludge within the basin, and a siphon for providing continuous suction on the cleaning tool. The pipe making up the siphon is formed into a trap to prevent entry of air into the system on temporary cessation of siphon action. The down side of the siphon may empty into a receiving tank; and, a pump can remove material from the receiving tank and lower the pressure to enhance operation of the siphon. With such enhancement, the siphon can lift material from a basin and discharge the material on a level above the level of the water in the basin. The nozzle has openings in all faces to suck in adjacent water and pick up contaminants suspended in the water adjacent to the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4683067
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cleaning cooling tower basins. The apparatus includes a reservoir and large pipe extending from the tower basin to a lower level to act as a siphon. A water supply can fill the large pipe, and a valve can be opened to start the siphon. A cleaning tool remains below the water level in the basin to maintain the siphon while the basin is cleaned. The makeup water valve maintains the desired water level in the basin, so the tower can remain in operation during cleaning. The material removed from the basin is strained and the waste water is disposed of through conventional sewerage.

  • Patent number: 4637535
Abstract: A carrying strap for cameras for providing a secure carrying position for the camera. The strap uses the generally conventional strap for suspending the camera in the abdominal area of the person so the camera is readily available for use, and an additional strap is fixed to the camera, or to the ends of the usual strap. The additional strap is of the right length for the person's arm to pass through the strap and carry the camera from the person's shoulder. In this position, the usual strap urges the camera towards the person's body and the person's upper arm can hold the camera. Also, a securing strap extends from the usual strap to the additional strap to prevent the additional strap from slipping off the shoulder.
