  • Patent number: 6378781
Abstract: A convergent-divergent nozzle with an exit area control mechanism includes convergent and divergent petals extending from a nozzle structure on which a synchronising ring is allowed to rotate and to move in a radial direction. Angled lever arms pivot on the nozzle structure and extend from the synchronising ring to compression struts that connect with the divergent petals so that, when the synchronising ring rotates around the nozzle structure, the rotation is converted by the angled lever arms into a predominantly axial displacement of the compression struts, resulting in opening or closure of the divergent petals.

  • Patent number: 6311478
Abstract: Guiding mechanism for variable geometry vectoring nozzles, applicable to gas turbines, capable of transmitting tangential forces acting on the external ring under vectoring loads onto the inner ring, avoiding the need of a joint between the outer ring and the nozzle structure. With this purpose a guiding track (9) oriented circunferentially around the pivoting axis (8) is incorporated onto the outer ring (3) and a track (10) oriented around a second axis (6) perpendicular to the previous is incorporated on the intermediate ring (2). The sledge element (11) joint to the intermediate ring (2), slides along the track (9) as a result of vectoring around the axis (8). For vectoring around axis (6) the sledge element (12), joint to the inner ring (1) slides over the track (10).

  • Patent number: 6192671
Abstract: Divergent petal arrangement for convergent-divergent nozzles with thrust vectoring capability through changes in the divergent section geometry, in which the position of each slave divergent petals 4 is determined by a centering mechanism 31, made up by two centering bars 14 and 27 that slide across the sled elements 17 and 18 of the master divergent petals 2, fix a centered axial position between divergent master petals 2 and by a hanger element 13 that collides with the stop elements 25 of the master divergent petals limits the displacement to another axial position, avoiding at the same time and in conjunction with the centering mechanism 31 the displacement of the slave divergent petal 4 away from the master petals 2 when the pressure forces act from the air towards the gas side.

  • Patent number: 6102307
Abstract: A load strut for divergent master petals of variable geometry nozzles, of the type which exhibit a control system constituted by three ring-like pieces, the external ring piece being divided into two half-rings, which joins the two half-rings and the corresponding divergent master petal, and which may comprise two bars joined at one end by means of spherical or universal joints to the external ring, and joined to one another, by means of a cylindrical joint, substantially perpendicular to the plane which contains the center lines of both bars and by a divergent master petal-binding transition piece, joined to the two bars by means of cylindrical joints, with sufficient clearance to allow the changes in distance between the ends of the two bars.
