  • Patent number: 10135530
Abstract: Optical wireless communication techniques are described and claimed. In one embodiment, the disclosure relates to method and apparatus to provide optical signaling with visible light having variable pulse position modulation (VPPM). The optical signal includes a Start Frame Delimiter (SFD) which indicates beginning of an asynchronous optical signaling. The VPPM signaling includes a lower frequency time varying amplitude component that when subsampled by a low frame rate camera results in alias induced flicker or blinking. Such signals are quickly recognizable as signals with modulated data. In another embodiment, the disclosure provides a system, device and method for decoding a Start Frame Delimiter (SFD) to indicate arrival of incoming VPPM optical data.

  • Publication number: 20180098215
Abstract: Various systems and methods for identifying and performing authentication of visible light communications using optical camera communication techniques are described. In an example, an electronic processing system to authenticate a particular light emitting source includes electronic operations for: detecting, from image data, modulated light data emitted from a light emitting object, where the image data depicts the light emitting object, and where the image data is captured with an image sensor (e.g., of a camera); identifying, from the image data, the light emitting object as a source of the modulated light data; receiving an indication to select the light emitting object as an authenticated source of the modulated light data; and performing a command to process the modulated light data from the authenticated source, with the command performed in response to the indication to select the light emitting object as the authenticated source of the modulated light data.

  • Publication number: 20180095160
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a method for radar signal detection, the method comprising: scanning a radio channel by a scanning filter in a first frequency subband to provide an incoming signal; detecting a potential radar signal in the incoming signal based on prior knowledge of a structure of the radar signal; and if the potential radar signal is detected, keeping the scanning filter in the first frequency subband; if no potential radar signal is detected, adjusting the scanning filter to a second frequency subband.

  • Patent number: 9923638
Abstract: Optical signaling is implemented by modulating visible light with variable pulse position modulation (VPPM). VPPM is a composite waveform and its optical signal includes a Start Frame Delimiter (SFD) which indicates start of optical signaling. To identify modulated lights, the duty cycle is periodically changed in the waveform to induce an AM envelope at a frequency higher than the response of the human eye. The signal is then sampled via a camera producing an alias frequency that produces noticeable blinking. Because the communication is asynchronous, the desired camera frame rate (fc) in relationship to the modulation bit rate timing clock (or symbol rate, fs) is only approximate. Consequently, a frequency offset develops between the camera frame rate (fc) and the symbol rate (fs) in transmission of long packets. The disclosed embodiments provide a detection algorithm, system and apparatus to provide clock offset tracking and correction.

  • Publication number: 20060088469
Abstract: The present invention relates to the preparation and activation of multimetallic zeolites loaded with transition metals for N2O abatement in tail-gases from different sources. The N2O-containing gas is brought in contact with a catalyst comprising Fe and a second, third, or any additional transition metal (Cu, Co, Ni, Mn, Cr, V), with a total metal content ranging from 0.1-1.0 wt. %, on a zeolite support (MFI or BEA) at 523-873 K. Not 10 only the combination and loading of metals, but also the method of incorporation in the zeolite and its activation is essential to obtain active and stable catalysts. The synergy between metals was observed in Fe—Cu, Fe—Co, and Fe—Co—Cu systems, but not with combinations of iron with other transition metals. The optimal catalysts show high N2O conversions (>80%) at temperatures <623 K and stable behaviour for >2000 hours in pilot-scale tests with a zeolite-coated monolithic reactor.
