Patent number: 7910873Abstract: A system with applications in pattern recognition, or classification, of DNA assay samples. Because DNA reference and sample material in wells of an assay may be caused to fluoresce depending upon dye added to the material, the resulting light may be imaged onto an embodiment comprising an array of photodetectors and an adaptive neural network, with applications to DNA analysis. Other embodiments are described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2007Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: California Institute of TechnologyInventors: Jaw-Chyng Lue, Wai-Chi Fang

Patent number: 5863806Abstract: A microcoil structure for use in an integrated circuit to produce magnetic flux for specific applications or to serve as an inductor is provided. Further, a method for forming the foregoing microcoil structure in a semiconductor wafer is provided. The microcoil structure includes a plurality of diffusion regions having two ends formed with ohmic contact regions. A field-oxide region and an overlaying insulating layer are formed over the diffusion regions. The field oxide region and the insulating layer together serve as a core member for the microcoil structure Further, a plurality of conductive layers are electrically connected between the diffusion regions in such a manner as to form a coil-like structure which winds around the core member to form the desired microcoil structure. When current is input to this microcoil structure, a magnetic flux is produced. The magnitude and polarity of the magnetic flux can be controlled by varying the magnitude and direction of the input current.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1997Date of Patent: January 26, 1999Assignee: United Microelectronics Corp.Inventor: Jaw-Chyng Lue

Patent number: 5831513Abstract: A magnetic field sensing device for simultaneously measuring all components of a magnetic field is disclosed. The present invention includes a conductive stack formed in a semiconductor substrate, where the conductive stack includes some ion-implanted layers abutting to each other, and each of the ion-implanted layers has a different and decreasing dosage level down to the bottom layer. The present invention also includes a first conductive contact on a first end of the top layer surface of the ion-implanted layers, and a second conductive contact on a second end of the top layer surface of the ion-implanted layers. A current flows into the first conductive contact and leave the second conductive contact, so that a horizontal magnetic field that exerts on the magnetic field sensing device is measured.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1997Date of Patent: November 3, 1998Assignee: United Microelectronics Corp.Inventor: Lormen Jaw-Chyng Lue
