Abstract: In various embodiments, laminate materials having a first layer, second layer and third layer are described herein. The first layer includes a dilatant compound. The second layer is a ceramic material. The third layer includes a strike face material. The second layer is interposed between the first layer and the third layer. In some embodiments, nanomaterials such as HALLOYSITE nanotubes are mixed in the dilatant compound and are cross-linked thereto. Laminate materials of the present disclosure have beneficial properties for ballistic shielding for both persons and equipment. Dilatant compounds formed from a silicone fluid and a nanomaterial functionalized with at least one silane coupling agent are also described herein.

Abstract: The present invention provides glass laminate structures and methods of making them, wherein the structures can comprise, in various combinations, a first glass, a first film, and an adhesion promoter. The glass laminate structures of the present invention can further comprise one or more thermoset layers, one or more covers, additional films, and additional glasses.

Abstract: The present invention provides a composition for hardening glass, wherein said composition comprises one or more silane-based compounds. The present invention also provides a method for hardening glass by applying said composition to a glass and incubating said glass with said composition. The present invention also provides a hardened glass prepared in accordance with the methods and compositions of the present invention.
