    Abstract: An improved life ring has a ring buoy with a rope connected at its one end to the buoy. Releasable retaining devices at several locations around one side of the buoy hold the rope in coiled fashion on the buoy but release to free the coil, without snagging, when the buoy is thrown into the water.
