  • Patent number: 4883307
Abstract: The integral cab side extender or fairing for a tractor-trailer provides reduction of aerodynamic drag. The cab extender is a unitary structure including a rear-quarter-panel-forming portion having a rear wall, a side wall and a front wall. The side wall and rear wall of the rear-quarter-panel-forming portion form an integral fairing. The side wall has a sinuous, progressively rearwardly and laterally outwardly flared sidewall-forming surface and the rear wall has a rearwardly laterally outwardly flared rear wall-forming surface which converges with the flared sidewall-forming surface to form the fairing.

  • Patent number: 4566552
Abstract: A hood tilt retardation system comprising a shock absorber mounted on the side of upstanding member near the motor truck engine provides cushioning of the hood descent into its fully open or closed positions in the final segments thereof. This cushioning is augmented by a pair of springs attached to the hood and upstanding member for movement thereabout and functioning as a counterbalance to the hood weight during the hood reciprocal movement between its open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 4281733
Abstract: A motor truck hood opening damper restraint in the form of a vertically mounted, hydraulic hood damper or dash pot which restricts the speed of travel of the hood past an overcenter position, cushions the hood at the stop at the open position and permits unrestricted speed of travel when closing the hood.
