  • Patent number: 9684600
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and program product for optimizing a multiprocessor computing system by sampling memory reference latencies and adjusting components of the system in response thereto. During execution of processes the computing system, memory reference sampling of memory locations from shared memory of the computing system referenced in the executing processes is performed. Each sampled memory reference collected from sampling is associated with a latency and a physical memory location in the shared memory.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 2011
Date of Patent: June 20, 2017
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation
Inventors: Jay P. Kurtz, Glen W. Nelson
  • Patent number: 8793459
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product are provided for implementing feedback directed Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) mitigation tuning in a computer system. During a page frame memory allocation for a process, predefined monitored performance metrics are compared with stored threshold values. Responsive to the compared values, selected use of local memory is dynamically modified during the page frame memory allocation.

Date of Patent: July 29, 2014
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation

  • Publication number: 20080270716
Abstract: Flight data indicating a history of what has happened in a virtual memory system's programs is recorded. Memory residency of symbolic information associated with the flight data and is determined, and a determination is made whether all items needed to record the symbolic information are available without disk reads in the virtual memory system. If all items needed to record the symbolic information are available in the virtual memory system without disk reads, the symbolic information is recorded in-line at the time of recording flight data. If all items needed to record the symbolic information are not available without disk reads, only the virtual memory handles are recorded in-line at the time of recording flight data.
