  • Patent number: 9708876
Abstract: A ram assembly is provided. In one embodiment, the ram assembly includes a base ram having a tapered profile and a seal coupled to the base ram in a manner that allows the seal to slide relative to the base ram during operation of the ram assembly. In some instances in which the ram assembly is installed in a blowout preventer, the tapered profile of the base ram can facilitate compression of the seal in multiple directions. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20170159399
Abstract: A packoff and a locking assembly installed in a bore of a wellhead component are provided. In one embodiment, a packoff includes inner and outer annular seals and an energizing ring shaped to be wedged between the inner and outer annular seals so as to apply a radially inward biasing force on the inner annular seal and a radially outward biasing force on the outer annular seal. In another embodiment, a locking assembly includes a lock ring that extends into a recess in a wall of the bore of the wellhead component and an actuator radially disposed between an inner component within the bore and the lock ring to retain the lock ring within the recess. The actuator can have an interference fit with the inner component to inhibit movement of the actuator between the lock ring and the inner component. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9598924
Abstract: A wellhead hanger assembly is provided. In one embodiment, a system includes a wellhead hanger, such as a casing hanger. This system also includes a spacer ring positioned along a neck of the wellhead hanger between a threaded portion of the neck and a shoulder of the wellhead hanger. In at least some instances, the spacer ring may cooperate with a running tool threaded onto the wellhead hanger to reduce the break-out torque needed for disconnecting the running tool from the wellhead hanger. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.
