Patent number: 8792402Abstract: A method and apparatus for coordinating communication in a wireless sensor network may include a plurality of nodes, such as routers, edge nodes, data accumulators and/or gateways. Time management functions, such as determining an elapsed time, may be controlled based on a detected temperature, e.g., a temperature detected at a node, and/or based on a detected clock skew between two or more clocks in two or more different devices. Accurate time management may allow for devices to more accurately coordinate communication instances, e.g., communication that occurs at periodic wake up times. A cluster head, such as a data accumulator, may be associated with a network after its initial formation and cause nodes in the network to alter their hierarchy in the network, thereby making the cluster head accumulator a parent to nodes in the network. Nodes having a relatively lower hop count may have a higher battery capacity than nodes having a higher hop count.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2011Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Assignees: Honeywell International SARL, Yokogawa USA, Inc.Inventors: Jay P. Werb, Victor A. Berry

Patent number: 5006983Abstract: A system for allocating service resources to a plurality of individuals who have requested services includes a plurality of communication devices, each one of which is for assignment to a different one of the individuals; assignment logic for assigning each one of the individuals to a corresponding one of the queues, each one of the of queues a different priority associated with it; indication logic for indicating that a service resource is or will become available to serve a next individual; selection logic for selecting the next individual from the queue having the highest priority and having at least one individual assigned to it; and a communicator for communicating with the communication device assigned to the next individual so as to notify the next individual that service is available. The communication devices are handheld wireless pagers. The communicator is a wireless transmitter.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1989Date of Patent: April 9, 1991Assignee: Addax, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth P. Wayne, Jay P. Werb
