Publication number: 20030097488Abstract: Apparatus, methods and articles of manufacture for handling messages in a client-server environment. In general, computers of a client-server environment are configured with sockets to facilitate network communications. A socket of at least one of the computers is configured to recognize a format of a message to be received from another computer, whereby the socket is configured to handle receiving the message without invoking the application until the message is completely received. In general, the message may be formatted with a length field or terminating characters. In one embodiment, the socket utilizes a record definition to recognize the message format.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 21, 2001Publication date: May 22, 2003Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mark Linus Bauman, John Lee Brooks, Bob Richard Cernohous, Clark Anthony Goodrich, Kent L. Patent number: 6542502Abstract: The invention is a replication method that requires only one copy of a packet entering a multiport switch to be transmitted from the input port, the method acquiring the deadlock avoidance advantages of virtual cut-through operation. The goal is achieved via a central buffer, with replication occurring during the read of the chunk out of the central buffer by the output ports.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1996Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Jay Robert Herring, Craig Brian Stunkel, Rajeev Sivaram

Patent number: 6531663Abstract: An electrical connection for a surface-mount circuit device, and a method for forming the electrical connection. The electrical connection includes a solder stop that promotes the accurate location of a solder joint that electrically connects the surface-mount device to the conductor. In accordance with the invention, the solder stop also promotes stress relief of the electrical connection during thermal cycling, such that thermal cycle fatigue cracking occurs in the solder stop instead of the conductor and solder joint. As a result, thermal stresses are absorbed and dissipated by the solder stop, and do not adversely affect the continuity and mechanical integrity of the electrical connection. The solder stop preferably has a composition that contains an inorganic particulate filler in a glass matrix, the latter being present in an amount that forms a weak bond between the inorganic particles and between the solder stop and conductor.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1998Date of Patent: March 11, 2003Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: John Karl Isenberg, Carl William Berlin, Jay Robert Myers, William Paul Ferraro

Patent number: 6397720Abstract: A novel resizing die (100/300) for a cartridge case has been provided for efficiently and quickly resizing a cartridge case during a reloading operation. The novel die includes a precise measuring system (122, 124, 108/122, 306, 108) for being able to accurately and precisely adjust the position of the resizing die when already threaded into an internal bore of a reloading press so that after a first resizing process is performed, the resizing die of the present invention may be precisely adjusted by the length that the cartridge's headspace distance is too long or too short so that the next resizing process will yield a cartridge headspace distance that is in substantial accordance with a predetermined length.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2000Date of Patent: June 4, 2002Inventors: Thomas Michael Fox, Jay Robert Mitchell

Patent number: 6157350Abstract: An antenna latching mechanism includes a housing with an attached antenna and a mating utility part. A collar is formed on one of the housing and the utility part and a mating stem, rotatably fitting within the collar, is formed on the other. The collar and stem define an opening and a ridge is formed in the opening. Flexible fingers, each having a cam surface, are positioned on one of the housing and the utility part to extend through the opening, with the stem coaxially positioned in the collar, so the cam surfaces engage the ridge in a releasable assembled orientation. Detent notches are defined in one of the collar and stem and a mating flexible detent finger is formed in the other to engage a selected one of the notches and provide a plurality of stable axial positions of the housing relative to the mating utility part.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1999Date of Patent: December 5, 2000Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Kevin Duane House, Javier Leija, Ronald James Nordhues, Jay Robert Mitchell, Matthew Ronald Michieli

Patent number: 6003091Abstract: A quiesced and synchronous distributed data processing system includes a primary node, a secondary node and a switch between the primary and secondary nodes. The TOD for the primary node is set depending on the system. The invention sets the TOD for the switch based on the TOD of the primary node. The primary node then verifies the switch TOD. If verified, the TOD for the secondary node is set, based on the TOD of the primary node. Finally, the secondary node self-verifies its TOD.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1997Date of Patent: December 14, 1999Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert Francis Bartfai, Derrick LeRoy Garmire, Jay Robert Herring, Francis Alfred Kampf, Nicholas Paul Rash, Kevin John Reilly, Craig Brian Stunkel

Patent number: 5756008Abstract: A silver composition is disclosed which contains silver powder or flake, a water soluble binder, an organic water soluble solvent and an inorganic binder. Generally, the composition will also contain water. The water soluble binder is especially chosen such that it has the property after dissolution in water, followed by water removal that it can be again dissolved in water (as opposed to water resistance as in a paint). The silver composition as a film or coating also lacks water resistance (prior to a firing operation) which can aid in pattern formation.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1996Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Assignee: E. Patent number: 4102659Abstract: A process for separation of a synthesis feed gas mixture containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methane. The feed gas mixture is countercurrently contacted with methane wash liquid in a first adsorption zone and the recovered absorber bottoms liquid is contacted with hydrogen rich vapor in a second adsorption zone to recover residual hydrogen gas as overhead. Hydrogen rich vapor is generated for the second absorption zone by vaporization of second absorption zone bottoms liquid, with the bottoms liquid recovered from the second absorption zone being fractionated to recover carbon monoxide overhead gas. The process achieves the rejection of hydrogen impurity in the second absorption and associated vaporization steps with minimum degradation of refrigeration temperature levels in the process and high recovery of carbon monoxide product.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1976Date of Patent: July 25, 1978Assignee: Union Carbide CorporationInventor: Jay Robert Martin
