Patent number: 6936242Abstract: Disclosed is a non-flowable anhydrous topical antiperspirant composition comprising a first portion and a second portion contiguous with the first portion. The first portion is semi-opaque to opaque and comprises a first hydrophobic carrier vehicle and a first gellant and has a particulate antiperspirant active suspended therein. The second portion is translucent to transparent and comprises a second hydrophobic carrier vehicle and a second gellant. Preferably, the second hydrophobic carrier vehicle has an average refractive index that approximately matches the refractive index of the second gellant. Ideally, for greater translucency the second portion will be substantially free of antiperspirant salt and/or other opacifying materials. Preferably, the first hydrophobic carrier vehicle also has an average refractive index that approximately matches the refractive index of the first gellant.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2002Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: The Gillette CompanyInventors: David L. Elliott, Dennis J. Colwell, Jayant N. Sane, Tuan M. Vu, Cheryl Lynn Galante

Patent number: 6726901Abstract: Disclosed is an anhydrous topical antiperspirant composition comprising a dermatologically acceptable carrier and a perspiration reducing effective amount of a particulate antiperspirant salt suspended in the carrier. The antiperspirant salt comprises an aluminum-zirconium chlorohydrate having a metal to chloride ratio between about 0.9 and about 1.3. The composition also includes, separate from the antiperspirant salt, a stabilizing basic material in an amount sufficient to prevent degradation of the antiperspirant composition or to minimize acid odor. Also disclosed is a method of reducing perspiration from human skin by applying the aforementioned topical composition.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2002Date of Patent: April 27, 2004Assignee: The Gillette CompanyInventors: Yuling Yin, Jayant N. Sane, Yan-Fei Shen

Patent number: 5939057Abstract: The present invention comprises a process of preparing a solution of an enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt in a polyhydric alcohol by(a) providing an aqueous solution consisting essentially of about 5% to about 18% by weight of an enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt in water, the enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt having been prepared in situ without having been dried to a solid powder;(b) mixing the aqueous solution with a sufficient amount of a liquid polyhydric alcohol to provide a mixed solution which has an antiperspirant salt to polyhydric alcohol ratio of about 1:4 to about 1.2:1; and(c) rapidly evaporating the water from the mixed solution under vacuum to provide a final liquid polyhydric alcohol solution containing about 20 to 50% enhanced efficacy aluminum antiperspirant salt and about 2 to 16% water, with the balance being polyhydric alcohol.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1997Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Inventors: Stephen J. Provancal, Angel L. Carrillo, Thomas J. Fluhler, Richard Oryszczak, Jayant N. Sane

Patent number: 5798094Abstract: Soap-based clear cosmetic sticks are disclosed which include an alkali metal salt of a chelating agent into the stick composition to increase the set temperature and the stick hardness and to prevent the formation of precipitates in the composition during aging. A typical composition of the present invention comprises about 40 to 90%, preferably about 50 to 80%, of a polyhydric alcohol, about 5 to 35%, preferably 15 to 30%, water, about 3 to 12%, preferably 4 to 8%, of an alkali metal salt of a C.sub.12-22, preferably C.sub.14-18, fatty acid, and about 0.3 to 1.6%, preferably about 0.5 to 1.3% of an alkali metal salt of a chelating agent, preferably a sodium or potassium salt of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA). The composition will also typically contain a cosmetic active ingredient such as a deodorant active. Preferably the composition will contain less than 0.3%, most preferably less than 0.2%, of C.sub.20-22 soap in order to achieve maximum clarity.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1996Date of Patent: August 25, 1998Assignee: The Gillette CompanyInventors: Tuan M.
