  • Publication number: 20060006650
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for joining and sealing conduits, includes edge trim, a sleeve, and a retaining element. The edge trim is shaped to mount upon and engage an end of a conduit. The sleeve extends between the conduits and at least partially surrounds the edge trim. The sleeve may be made of compressible material, such that when the retaining element surrounds a portion of the sleeve and the edge trim, the retaining element generally compresses the portion of the sleeve portion underlying the retaining element and displaces the sleeve material to expand on either side of the retaining element and limit movement of the retaining element. The method of joining and sealing conduits includes mounting the edge trim and a retaining element upon an end of a conduit, extending a sleeve between the conduits, and sliding the retaining element over the sleeve toward the end of the conduit.

  • Publication number: 20050279103
Abstract: A device for controlling fluid flow for heating or cooling an associated system is provided. The present invention includes a housing having a flow control member that includes a bendable portion. The flow control member responds automatically to a pressure condition within the housing and opens or closes based on the direction and quantity of fluid flow and does not include any mechanical or electromechanical control components. The bendable portion may include, for example, a convoluted section. The flow control member is in an open position during a mode of operation of the associated system and is in a closed position in another mode of operation of the system.

  • Publication number: 20050211839
Abstract: Modularized insulation blanket for thermal and/or acoustical insulation. The modularized insulation blanket has a cover formed of a distal layer and proximal layer in sealed mated relationship. The distal and proximal layers are sealed along longitudinal and latitudinal heat-sealed seams that define a plurality of modules. The heat-sealed seam may be creased so as to be foldable and/or perforated to provide a tear line. Within the modules are batting blocks. The blankets may be attached to surface structures such as the interior skin surface of an aircraft fuselage, pipes or other structures with retention systems. The blankets may be formed in an apparatus including a platen, heat seal rollers or heating sealing mechanisms, and edge sealers.

  • Publication number: 20050086426
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for monitoring I/O activity of each device and the total I/O activity for each adapter. When there is low I/O activity for the tape subsystem, the I/O for the disk subsystems may be spread across all available adapters and paths. When I/O activity for the tape subsystem increases, the I/O activity for the disk subsystems may be reduced on the adapter processing the tape I/O, but will continue across all other adapters. If the tape subsystem begins to report errors due to I/O starvation, the disk I/O activity may be adjusted until the errors stop.

  • Patent number: 5924723
Abstract: A side safety barrier device to protect occupants of a vehicle includes a crash sensor to generate at least one actuator signal when a crash having predetermined properties is sensed. A safety barrier is normally stored in the headliner of the vehicle in a first or stored position and selectively deployable to a second or deployed position by the safety barrier deployment assembly when signaled by the crash sensor to separate or isolate the side of the vehicle on which the side safety device is disposed from the interior of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4638432
Abstract: To ensure security of interrupt input signals to a computer system (30-3N) with minimum interruption of the running of programs in the system, two interrupt logic units (1) receive interrupt signals on leads (20-2x) from connected apparatus and store flags representing the interrupt signals in an interrupt store (2). Control logic (3) compares each input signal with presettable criteria to determine if such signal is an interrupt signal and, if so, causes the data to be transferred by way of a read register (5) to the connected computer system (30-3N). At the same time the control logic (3) of one of the units (1) designated as the active unit also causes an ouput on a lead (11) to the other unit (1) designated as the standby unit.
