  • Patent number: 7836122
Abstract: An interface for an industrial control system provides, at a server side, a set of objects for programmer use. Instances of object provider objects, linked to each of the software objects, provide a uniform interface for the software objects allowing software objects from different vendors to be used while preserving a common programmer interface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 22, 2006
Date of Patent: November 16, 2010
    Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Jayme Edwards, David J. Lillie
  • Patent number: 7617277
Abstract: A remote operating program for a industrial controller executes on any browser enabled remote computer by connecting to Web server connected to the industrial controller to load an applet. The applet provides for a communication protocol with the server of the industrial controller that allows the applet to discover and use objects on the server that may be implemented by the remote operating program.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 28, 2007
Date of Patent: November 10, 2009
    Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20060102089
Abstract: A vivarium data management system provides for distributed terminals throughout the system for data entry and protocol review. Practical point of activity data entry and review made possible on touchscreens by tailoring the interface presented to the user closely to the user's purposes as derived from the user's role, the user's location, the function of the location, and the level of the location within the hierarchy of the vivarium structure.

  • Publication number: 20050065913
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods that provide a portal user with role-based access to components on a network via portlets within the portal. The role-based access can be sharable such that one or more users with a similar role can instantiate instances of a shared portal. Sharable configurations can be stored local to the user's portal, local to another portal and/or within a networked storage medium. The access provides a user with an entry-point to components, wherein a user can monitor and control components. The user can additionally configure the portal such that the component access is further based on the user's location. Advantages of the present invention include delineation of access and administrative functionality, the ability to combine web and application servers within a similar environment, and the ability to access (e.g., controlling, collecting and analyzing data, etc.) when the user is not utilizing the portal.
