  • Patent number: 6997002
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an air conditioning unit and method of operating the same. The air conditioning unit has a power level control unit (6) for controlling the level of power supplied to a motor (2a) of a compressor. The power level control unit (6) is comprised of a first supplying unit (6a) for supplying first level power to the compressor motor (2a), and a second supplying unit (6b) for supplying second level power to the compressor motor (2a). If an operation cycle of the compressor corresponds to a loading operation, the power level control unit (6) supplies first level power for compressing a cooling agent through the first supplying unit (6a). Further, if an operation cycle of the compressor corresponds to an unloading operation, the power level control unit (6) supplies second level power less than the first level power through the second supplying unit (6b).

  • Patent number: 6962058
Abstract: The object of this invention is to provide an air conditioner with a variable capacity compressor (2) parallely connected to a fixed capacity compressor (4), and a method of controlling the operation of such an air conditioner. When it is required to start the fixed capacity compressor (4) in addition to an operation of the variable capacity compressor (2) due to an increase in the sum of the required cooling capacities of indoor units (9), an outdoor control unit (13) starts the fixed capacity compressor (4) during an unloading mode operation of the variable capacity compressor (2) where the pressure difference between the outlet side and inlet side of the variable capacity compressor is minimized. The fixed capacity compressor (4) is thus smoothly started without causing an induction of excessive starting current, and improves the operational reliability of the air conditioner.

  • Patent number: 6735965
Abstract: An air conditioning apparatus and control method thereof includes an inverter-type compressor and a two-stage variable-capacity compressor connected in parallel with their respective capacities controlled according to indoor air conditioning loads. Thus, the present invention is cost-competitive due to a capacity of the inverter-type compressor being lower than that of the two-stage variable-capacity compressor.

  • Patent number: 6732539
Abstract: An air conditioning apparatus and control method thereof is provided, in which a pulse width modulation compressor and a two-stage variable-capacity compressor are connected in parallel with each other to control capacities of the two compressors according to indoor air conditioning loads. The air conditioning apparatus is cost-competitive because a capacity supplied by the pulse width modulation compressor is relatively low in cost, and the cost required for manufacturing the compressor is reduced in proportion to the reduced capacity. Accordingly, with the air-conditioning apparatus an effect is obtainable in which a variable-capacity compressor with small capacity and a two-stage variable-capacity compressor with large capacity are controlled as if a large-scale variable-capacity compressor with a same capacity as a total capacity of the two compressors were linearly controlled.

  • Patent number: 6722143
Abstract: An air conditioning apparatus and control method thereof is provided, in which two-stage variable-capacity compressors are connected in parallel with each other to control capacities of the two stage variable-capacity compressors according to indoor air conditioning loads. A pair of two-stage variable-capacity compressors are used in the air conditioning apparatus to be cost competitive and can obtain an effect in which the pair of two-stage variable-capacity compressors are controlled as if a large-scale variable-capacity compressor with a capacity the same as a total capacity of the two compressors were linearly controlled.

  • Patent number: 5921094
Abstract: A method of sensing condensed water of an air conditioner which is driven by a compressor motor's operation through a motor driving portion, to heat-exchange the inside, comprises the steps of--sensing temperature by means of a temperature sensor mounted within a condensed water bucket, before comparing it with a predetermined temperature set in a control portion, during the operation of the air conditioner; driving the motor driving portion in order to operate the compressor motor until the room temperature detected by the temperature sensor reaches the temperature set by a user, if the indoor temperature is above the temperature already set; and stopping the motor driving portion in order to halt the operation of the compressor motor, deciding that condensed water collects in the condensed water bucket, and displaying an error message through a display as well as generating an alarm sound through an alarm sound generating portion, if the room temperature is below the temperature already set.

  • Patent number: 5850742
Abstract: An air conditioner includes an inlet for receiving room air, a heat exchanger for heating or cooling the air, an outlet for discharging the heated or cooled air back into the room, a fan for circulating the air through the air conditioner, inlet and outlet doors for opening/closing the inlet and outlet, a motor for driving the doors, and a controller for automatically actuating the motor to open the doors when the air conditioner is activated, and close the doors when the air conditioner is deactivated. A control by-pass is provided in a remote controller which is relatively inaccessible to a normal user but which can be actuated by an air conditioner tester or shipper for maintaining the doors open even when the air conditioner is deactivated (e.g., during testing or shipping) to prevent the doors from being damaged.
