Abstract: A recording medium, apparatus and method for recording a digital data stream on the recording medium are discussed. The method according to an embodiment includes recording the digital data stream by dividing the digital data stream into stream objects; recording common information for the stream objects; and recording stream time map information in a stream information file of the recording medium, the stream time map information including a time mapping list having time search information for searching the stream objects.

Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus of recording/reproducing a non-MPEG formatted digital TV broadcast signal on/from a writable medium. The present recording method, when a digital TV broadcast signal composed of DirecTV transport packets is received, extracts data contained in DirecTV transport packets to form an A/V elementary stream, packetizes the A/V elementary stream into PES (Packetized Elementary Stream) packets, slices the PES packets into 184-byte stream pieces to produce a series of 188-byte Transport Packets defined in MPEG standard, and writes the series of Transport Packets sequentially on a recording medium. The present method can record a non-MPEG type of transport stream in MPEG recording format and reproduce the recorded transport stream to original DirecTV transport stream, whereby an applicability of a digital recorder is improved.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a high-density recording medium and a data reproducing apparatus thereof. A high-density recording medium of the present invention includes audio and video data which has been recorded thereon in the format of TS (Transport Stream) which is specified as an acceptable input format in the standard of a digital television, and a data reproducing apparatus of reproducing such-recorded recording medium according to the present invention transmits read presentation data from the high-density recording medium without re-encoding and TS multiplexing to a digital television connected through a digital interface IEEE 1394. Due to the present invention, it is possible to deliver high-quality digital data recorded in a high-density recording medium to a digital television without an A/V encoding hardware requiring very complicated algorithm.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the method includes reproducing management information for managing reproduction of at least one secondary video stream and at least one secondary audio stream. The secondary video stream represents the picture-in-picture presentation path with respect to a primary presentation path represented by a primary video stream. The management information includes first combination information, and the first combination information indicates the secondary audio streams that are combinable with the secondary video stream. At least one of the secondary audio streams may be reproduced based on the first combination information.

Abstract: A text subtitle decoder includes a text subtitle processor, a text renderer, and a presentation controller. The text subtitle processor parses a text subtitle stream into text data and reproduction control information, where the text data represent a subtitle text to be displayed within a text subtitle region. After the text subtitle stream is parsed, the text renderer renders the text data into bitmap data using the reproduction control information. The presentation controller controls operations of the text subtitle processor and the text renderer.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the method includes determining which one of a primary subtitle associated with a primary video stream and a secondary subtitle associated with a secondary video stream to display based on management information stored in a memory. The secondary video stream represents the picture-in-picture presentation path with respect to a primary presentation path represented by the primary video stream. The primary video stream is recorded on a recording medium. The determined subtitle is selectively reproduced based on the management information.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a primary video stream and a secondary video stream are stored in a data area of the recording medium. The primary video stream represents a primary presentation path, and the secondary video stream represents a picture-in-picture presentation path with respect to the primary presentation path. Management information for managing reproduction of the picture-in-picture presentation path is stored in a management area of the recording medium. The management information indicates a type of the picture-in-picture presentation path based on whether the secondary video stream is synchronized with the primary video stream.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for reproducing data from a recording medium using a local storage is disclosed. The method for reproducing data of a recording medium using a local storage includes the steps of: a) reading a—binding unit contained in a directory associated with a recording medium from a file structure contained in the local storage/b) performing a binding operation for combining the read binding unit with the file structure contained in the recording medium, and forming a virtual package; and c) reproducing data stored in the recording medium and/or data stored in the local storage using the formed virtual package. Therefore, original data stored in the recording medium and additional data stored in the local storage can be effectively reproduced, resulting in greater convenience of use.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for connecting a media player to a content server are discussed. According to an embodiment, the method includes determining whether a connection to a content server is required; searching control information to identity whether the connection to the content server is permitted, the control information including connection limitation information associated with a connectable content server, the connection limitation information including address of the connectable content server; and controlling the connection to the content server in response to the connection limitation information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for reproducing image data are provided. According to an embodiment the method comprises receiving PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file from an enhanced storage medium or a content server, the PNG file comprising an image data preceded by an image header and followed by an image trailer, the image header including frame size information, bit depth information, color type information, compression method information, filter method information and interface method information; storing the PNG file in a temporary data storage; and reproducing the image data based on at least one of information included in the image header, along with an associated audio/video data recorded in the enhanced storage medium.

Abstract: A method, apparatus medium for reproducing animation data using an enhanced navigation player are provided. Abstract: A method and apparatus for reproducing data is disclosed. The method and apparatus configures a composite file structure to simultaneously reproduce data recorded in a recording medium and other data recorded in a local storage, and reproduces data using the configured composite file structure. A variety of methods for configuring the composite file structure are described in preferred embodiments, such that a method for effectively configuring the composite file structure regardless of a current condition state is given. Therefore, data recorded in the recording medium and other data stored in the local storage can be effectively used.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of reproducing text subtitle streams. The method includes receiving at least one text subtitle stream from an external source. Each text subtitle stream including a style segment defining a group of region styles and a plurality of presentation segments. Each presentation segment having at least one region of text and each region of text being linked to a selected one of the group of region styles. The style segment further defining palette information. Each presentation segment having a palette update flag which indicates whether to use the palette information defined in the style segment or to use new palette information when reproducing the each presentation segment. Abstract: In one embodiment, at least one supplementary data stream related to a main data stream is downloaded. A stream table defining reproducible data streams, in which a reproducing apparatus selects at least one data stream to be reproduced during presentation of a playitem and a subplayitem, is checked. The playitem manages reproduction of the main data stream and the subplayitem manages reproduction of the downloaded supplementary data stream. The main and downloaded supplementary data streams defined in the stream table are reproduced.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the data structure includes first navigation information managing reproduction of at least one main data stream, and second navigation information managing reproduction of at least one supplementary data stream related to the main data stream. The data structure further includes a stream table defining reproducible data streams in which a reproducing apparatus selects at least one data stream to be reproduced during presentation of the first and second navigation information. The reproducible data streams include the main and supplementary data streams.
