  • Publication number: 20210396743
Abstract: A radical departure from the classical E1-E2-E3 three-enzyme mediated ubiquitination of eukaryotes, the bacterial enzymes of the SidE family of Legionella pneumophila effectors utilize NAD+ to ligate ubiquitin onto target substrate proteins achieved via a two-step mechanism involving (1) ADP-ribosylation of ubiquitin followed by (2) phosphotransfer to a target serine residue. Using fluorescent NAD+ analogues as well as synthetic substrate mimics, a continuous assay system enabling real-time monitoring of both steps of this mechanism is disclosed herein. These assays are amenable to biochemical studies and high-throughput screening of inhibitors of these effectors, and enable the discovery and characterization of putative enzymes similar to the SidE family in other organisms.

  • Patent number: 10687193
Abstract: A wearable device monitors a wearer's physical activity and provides assistance to the wearer. The device includes physiologic sensors that provide sensor data of the wearer to a processor, a user interface that provides information to the wearer, a network interface that provides a network connection between the device and a remote computer, and a memory that stores instructions. The processor executes the instructions to collect physical activity data of the wearer using the sensors, to provide the collected activity data to the remote computer via the network interface to create or update a parameterized rule-based custom data model for the wearer, to receive the custom data model for comparison to collected activity data, and to communicate with the wearer via the user interface when a check of the wearer's activity data against the custom data model indicates that the wearer's activity is not consistent with the custom data model.

  • Patent number: 9906871
Abstract: Distant support is provided to a personal hearing system user by a support provider over a network. Support provider and user communicate with each other by speech transmitted over the network. The user depends in regard to understanding speech on his or her hearing aids. During the support session the hearing aids may have to be removed, may have to be switched off or may be programmed in an unfavorable way. In this case, the user may not be able to understand the speech of the support provider any more. The system enables the support provider to select a message from a list of available messages which is then presented as a visual image to the user. The obstructed acoustical channel is bypassed by relying on visual communication.
