  • Patent number: 8902711
Abstract: A computer system and a computer-implemented method for analyzing input data from a geological volume of interest in a subterranean formation. The method includes processing the input data using a first subterranean interpretation model, the first subterranean interpretation model being configured to provide first output data that are representative of characteristics of the geological volume of interest. The method further includes processing the input data using a second subterranean interpretation model, the second subterranean interpretation model being configured to provide second output data that are representative of the characteristics of the geological volume of interest. The method further includes determining a relationship between the first output data and the second output data, and transforming the second output data into the first output data using the relationship to obtain a transformed second output data.

  • Publication number: 20120290277
Abstract: A method is provided that utilizes independent data spatial bootstrap to quantitatively derive P10, P50 and P90 reservoir property logs and zonal averages. The method utilizes at least a “baseline” dataset that is assumed to be correct, and determines the distribution of possible input parameter values that provide the most optimal solution to fit the log analysis to the core data. In one embodiment, independent data spatial bootstrap method can be applied to determine the uncertainty of porosity and saturation.

  • Patent number: 8244472
Abstract: A system and method enable testing of a plurality of well-logging tools on a common, realistic earth model. To enable this testing, a model of a synthetic virtual geologic volume of interest is generated. From the synthetic virtual geologic volume of interest, a plurality of test properties are determined as a function of position within the virtual geologic volume of interest, wherein the test properties are measurable in actual geologic volumes of interest by a well-logging instruments. The individual test properties are then distributed to well-logging instrument developers with the model of the synthetic virtual geologic volume of interest to enable modeling and/or benchmarking of different well-logging instruments on the synthetic virtual geologic volume of interest and the ability to derive the original formation properties regardless of the method used (inversion, analytical solution, etc.).

  • Publication number: 20050114029
Abstract: A method to estimate water saturation (Sw) of a thin-bedded formation is provided including (a) developing a model of anisotropy of resistivity (Rv/Rh) a function of water saturation (Swt) for one or more volume fractions (either Fshale or Fsand); (b) measuring the anisotropy of resistivity of the formation; (c) measuring the volume fraction of the formation; (d) correlating anisotropy of resistivity to the measured volume fraction of the formation using the model to estimate the water saturation (total water saturation or sand water saturation) of the formation.
