  • Publication number: 20150361613
Abstract: A method includes the following steps: providing a grafting device (20) including a torch (26) that produces a flame (28) in a volume of ambient air and a cooling substrate (33) positioned facing the flame (28); moving the elongate material (14) continuously through the flame (28) between the torch (26) and the cooling substrate (33); and grafting carbon nanostructures (16) continuously onto the elongate material (14) during its passage through the flame (28).

  • Publication number: 20110059006
Abstract: A method and apparatus for production of nanoscale materials is disclosed. In the preferred embodiments, the invention is scalable and tunable to reliably produce nanoscale materials of specifically desired qualities and at relatively high levels of purity. In a preferred embodiment, combustible gas is discharged onto a substrate through a multi-zone flame facilitating the formation of nanoscale materials such as single and multi-wall nanotubes.

  • Patent number: 4082660
Abstract: The purification agent is constituted by a pulverulent mineral solid, on the surface of the constituent particles of which chains of polymers are fixed by grafting. The agent is useful for the purification of waters polluted for example by organic impurities such as hydrocarbons, and may be applied to the cleaning of systems which have contained petroleum.

  • Patent number: 4014844
Abstract: A process for grafting polymers on carbon black through a free radical mechanism comprising contacting of the black with the polymer and a thermal treatment. After formation of the carbon black mixture with at least one polymer, said mixture is degassed under vacuum at approximately room temperature, at least one substance acting as a solvent for said polymer is then introduced on said degassed mixture which is under vacuum, so as to form a solution of the latter containing the carbon black, said solution is heated with stirring at least at 50.degree. C until a carbon black bearing polymer grafts is obtained and the latter can, if desired, be separated by filtration or centrifugation of the unattached polymer solution. The carbon black products bearing polymer grafts as well as this carbon black itself are easily dispersed in solvents. They find valuable applications in paints, varnishes, printing inks, among others.
