  • Publication number: 20070192410
Abstract: A collaboration services suite is adapted to support a plurality of integrated telecommunications services accessed by geographically dispersed team members using a virtual team environment (VTE) client that generates a graphical user interface (GUI) for each of the respective team members. Communications sessions are automatically set up by the collaboration services suite in response to request messages generated by the VTE client when a team member initiates a communications session request using the GUI. Team members require no knowledge of another team member's communications device address in order to initiate a communications session. The collaboration services suite includes a VTE server that communicates with the VTE clients, a presence engine that collects and maintains a status of communications devices specified in a current profile of the team member; and, a call server for handling setup and control of a voice component of each communications session completed.

  • Publication number: 20070091892
Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention a method, system and apparatus for controlling the establishment of a data connection from an originating data device is disclosed. A computing apparatus, such as a server, receives a request from an originating data device, such as a fax machine, to establish a data connection with a destination data device, such as a second fax machine. The request may comprise an identifier associated with the destination data device and may include an authorization code. The server determines if the request is authorized based upon at least one of the destination identifier and the authorization code, and triggers a connection between the originating and destination data devices if authorized. The destination identifier may be the phone number or IP address of a destination data device. The authorization code may be a numeric code which will allow a user to establish a data connection between the originating data device and a nominally restricted data device.

  • Publication number: 20070047694
Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention, a method for communicating data associated with a user of a voice device is disclosed. A server receives a first identifier associated with a first device, the first device comprising one of the voice device and the data device. The server determines a second identifier associated with a second device based on the first identifier, the second device comprising the other one of the voice device and the data device. The server then establishes a connection with the second device using the second identifier and communicates data associated with the user of the voice device between the server and the data device. The communicated data can represent a user identifier (such as a user identifier stored on a smart card, the user's iris scan, the user's fingerprint scan and the like).

  • Publication number: 20070047693
Abstract: According to an embodiment on the present invention, a method for controlling a voice recorder is disclosed. The voice recorder is for recording a voice session between an origination device and a destination device. The method can be conveniently executed at a computing apparatus coupled to the origination device and to the voice recorder. The method comprises receiving at least one of a user identifier associated with a user of the origination device and a destination identifier associated with the destination device. The method further comprises generating a voice recording trigger using at least one of data associated with the user identifier and data associated with the destination identifier. The voice recording trigger is then transmitted to the voice recorder to enable the voice recorder to control recording of the voice session between the origination device and the destination device.

  • Publication number: 20060117264

  • Patent number: 6584179
Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving the utility of speech recognition is described. The method involves capturing a spoken word, passing the spoken word to a speech recognition algorithm, receiving at least one text representation of the spoken word from the speech recognition algorithm, and passing a text representation of the spoken word to a display telephone to permit the user to select the correct representation of the voice response. The apparatus is an access server which communicates with a display telephone, a speech recognition algorithm which responds to queries from the access server and one or more databases which likewise respond to queries from the access server. The method and apparatus are particularly useful in automating such functions as telephone directory services using display telephones.
