  • Patent number: 4920349
Abstract: An antenna mounting for use on a ship and which can be oriented in bearing and in elevation and has passive stabilization, which antenna mounting comprises, in combination,: (a) a frame which can be attached to a ship; (b) a support which can be oriented in bearing around an axis (bearing axis) in relation to said frame; (c) an intermediate device which is mounted on said support to oscillate around an intermediate axis at right angles to said bearing axis and whose center of gravity is below such intermediate axis; (d) an antenna support mounted on said device and which can be oriented around an axis of elevation at right angles to said intermediate axis; and (e) means comprising a pendular body mechanically connected to said support and said intermediate device and acting therebetween to maintain said intermediate device in a required orientation relative to horizontal.

  • Patent number: 4621266
Abstract: The device, which can be used on merchant vessels having only a course reference, comprises on a base (18) a mounting having bearing orientation means and supporting a gyroscopic assembly with two degrees of freedom, whose outer cardan transmission (28) has an axis of rotation (axis X) perpendicular to the bearing axis, its inner cardan transmission (36) having an axis of rotation (axis Y) at right angles to the axis X and being connected to the antenna during aiming. The gyroscopic assembly comprises a single flywheel (41) of considerable kinetic force in relation to the inertia of the antenna (10). Each cardan transmission has a torque motor (30,38) controlled by a loop whose feedback signal is delivered by an orientational pickup (40, 32) of the other cardan transmission. The means (24, 42, 46, 20) for orientation around the bearing axis are adapted to ensure substantially the aiming of the antenna in bearing, and therefore to retain the gyroscopic assembly close to the canonical position.

  • Patent number: 4046176
Abstract: Machine for the continuous manufacture of circular waveguides adapted to convey TE.sub.01 mode electromagnetic waves. The machine comprises a wire winder for winding an insulated metal wire onto a spindle, to provide adjacent turns of the wire winding in peripheral contact with each other a ribbon winder for armoring the wire winding with a ribbon winding and a capstan driver for supporting and centering the spindle and allowing the winding to advance along the spindle. For making the winding fully regular and uniform in spite of variations in the wire diameter, a tensioning device is provided, so that the tension of the wire at the point of winding must be held quite constant. This wire tension at the point of winding depends on the tension of the supplied wire at the winding point of origin and on the reaction of the wound portion, which has already been made.
