  • Publication number: 20090312865
Abstract: A system for metering articles (C) includes staging conveyor (16) and a transfer conveyor (26) extending along a conveyor path. The transfer conveyor (26) has at least two independent sets of conveying elements (44, 48). The system also includes a supply unit and a control unit (40). A first set of conveying elements (44) is held stationary at the loading zone while a first group of articles is supplied from the staging conveyor to the loading zone. Thereafter, the first group of articles (C) is moved to the exit point. The control unit also controls a second set of conveying elements (48) such that after the first group of articles is moved from the loading zone, the second set (48) is held stationary at the loading zone while a second group of articles is transferred from the staging conveyor to the loading zone.

  • Publication number: 20090250319
Abstract: A lug chain apparatus having lugs (22), an endless chain (30) and a positioning mechanism (20). The lugs (22) are releasably engageable with the chain (30). The positioning wheel (20) engages the lugs (22) and moves them along the chain (30), to predetermined locations along the chain respectively. Each lug (22) includes locking mechanism (24, 26, 31) that holds that lug (22) in a predetermined location along the chain (30) when in a locking state, and allows movement of that lug (22) along said chain (30) when in a releasing state, such that repositioning of the lugs (22) along the chain (30) is effected without removal of the lugs (22) from the chain (30).

  • Publication number: 20090044497
Abstract: A packaging apparatus forms a completely sealed composite package. The apparatus employs a continuous process which involves conditioning a surface of the package substrate. The substrate includes an adhesive coating that can be reactivated by infra-red radiation and adheres the package substrate to a juxtaposed face of a second surface. The apparatus uses rollers (102, 104, 118, 120) to compress the two surfaces together to complete the construction process.

  • Patent number: 7055350
Abstract: Known packaging machines are only able to package objects in a limited number of arrangements usually limited to a single pack type. The present invention provides a server and client arrangement in which a user makes a number of selections respectively based upon a number of criteria in order to custom design packed objects. A rendered simulation of the packed objects is displayed by the client and is viewable from user selected angles. Once designed, the user instructs the server, via the client, to control a laser printer, a cutting table and a robotic packaging machine in order to produce a selected printed pack type and pack selected objects into the selected printed pack type.
