  • Patent number: 4770141
Abstract: A fuel pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a spring loaded fuel quantity control member which is moved by increasing fluid pressure in a chamber to reduce the amount of fuel supplied. The pressure in the chamber is controlled by a pair of ON/OFF valves, the first valve admitting fluid to the chamber and the second valve allowing fluid to escape from the chamber. When the valves are closed an hydraulic lock is created to prevent movement of the member by mechanical forces applied to it during operation of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4658793
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine is of the rotary distributor type and has a high pressure pump which includes a cam ring which is angularly adjustable by means of a piston to vary the timing of fuel delivery. The piston is biased to a position suitable for starting the engine by a first spring, the first spring being located between the piston and a collar. The latter is biased by a second preloaded spring against which the piston can move after the clearance between the piston and collar has been taken up. An electromagnetic device includes an armature core which can exert a thrust on the piston but which in the absence of fluid pressure is unable to move the piston against the springs. When fluid pressure is applied to the piston the combined forces acting on the piston are sufficient to move the piston to the limit of movement of the armature core to compress the first spring and also partly to compress the second spring.

  • Patent number: 4414945
Abstract: A mechanical governor of the so-called "idling and maximum speed governor" type for injection pumps, comprising a governing lever to which is connected the control member for the rate of flow, or metering member, and which is pivotally mounted under the action of a force which is a function of the engine rotation speed, an idling speed spring bearing, on the one hand, on the governing lever and, on the other hand, on an idling speed abutment member, a control lever the position of which determines the engine speed at idling speed and the maximum speed and the load, or rate of flow delivered to the engine, at the intermediate speeds, and a main spring connected, through one of its ends, to the control lever, and through its other end to a rigid piece located at a certain distance of the governing lever, and in such manner as to be engaged with said lever and then to pivot when the control lever is moved from its idling speed position towards its maximum speed position, a regulator wherein the idling speed abut

  • Patent number: 4408590
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engine, of the type comprising a body, a rotary distributor mounted in the body, driven in timed relationship with the associated engine, at least one pumping member carried by the rotary distributor, an angularly movable ring surrounding the rotary distributor, means provided on the ring to move the pumping member thereby to effect injection of fuel as the rotary distributor rotates, a piston coupled to the ring and slidably mounted with respect to the body, which piston is subjected to a fluid pressure which varies with the speed of the engine, and a spring bearing on the body and arranged to oppose the movement of the piston under the action of said pressure, wherein there is a cup-shaped member interposed between the spring and the piston, a rod comprising a retaining surface for defining the end position of the cup, the rod being slidable with respect to the body, and an actuating member for defining the axial position of the rod.

  • Patent number: 4188175
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, comprising a rotor formed with at least one transverse cylinder-shaped bore in which are slidably mounted two pumping plungers. An inward movement is imparted to the plungers, as the rotor rotates, by cam lobes formed on the inner periphery of a fixed ring and acting on the plungers via respective rollers. The axis of the bore and the rotor's axis of rotation do not intersect each other, the distance between these two axes being such that the rollers are simultaneously engaged by two cam lobes and the distance is minimum under this condition.

  • Patent number: 4154204
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine comprises a rotor, a pair of plungers located in a transverse bore formed in the rotor and to which inward movement is imparted by roller shoes which support respective rollers engaged by a cam ring having cam lobes on its internal periphery. The roller shoes are engageable by stop members, the roller shoes and stop members having complementary surfaces with a continuous and/or discontinuous profile thereby to allow variation of the maximum fuel amount delivered to the engine. The roller shoes are axially displaceable by hydraulic driving means fed by a pressure which is made dependent on the air pressure introduced into the engine by a valve comprising a piston slidable in a cylinder and subject to the action of air pressure responsive means and a discharge port the effective section of which is adjustable by the position of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4050193
Abstract: A grinding head for machining the internal surface of a ring member includes a rotary grinding wheel which is coupled to a detector roll which can be moved about the internal surface of a master ring. The detector roll is tapered so that as the grinding wheel wears the detector roll can be moved axially to adjust its effective diameter to correspond to the diameter of the grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 4041919
Abstract: A fuel injection pump includes a cam which is movable to vary the timing of delivery of fuel by the injection pump. The cam is acted upon by a first piston which is subjected to the outlet pressure of a supply pump the piston acting on the cam to advance the timing of delivery of fuel. A second piston is provided which is subjected to the outlet pressure of the feed pump only when the engine speed attains a predetermined value. The first piston can move the cam against the action of a first light spring and a second relatively strong spring, the second spring being prestressed and being accommodated in the second piston.

  • Patent number: 3936233
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a pair of pumping plungers which are actuated by cam lobes formed on the internal periphery of an annular cam ring. Roller carrying shoes are interposed between the plungers and the cam lobes and are axially movable. The cam profile varies throughout its axial length so that variation in the axial setting of the shoes varies the amount of fuel supplied by the pump.
