Abstract: Topically applicable sunscreen/cosmetic compositions well suited for enhanced photoprotection of human skin and/or hair against the damaging effects of UV-A and UV-B irradiation, whether before, during and/or after exposure to such UV irradiation, particularly solar radiation, comprise a photoprotecting effective amount of (i) at least one antioxidant, for example tocopherol or derivative thereof, and (ii) at least one extract of at least one nonphotosynthetic and nonfructifying filamentous bacteria, for example of the order Beggiatoales, in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle, diluent or carrier therefor.

Abstract: A composition suitable for effective and comfortable removal of both waterproof and non-waterproof eye makeup is disclosed which includes an aqueous phase containing at least one surfactant and an oily phase containing at least one cosmetic oil. The surfactant concentration may be up to 3 wt % of the total weight of the composition. The weight ratio of the aqueous phase and the oily phase may be from 30:70 to 60:40.

Abstract: The composite film according to the invention consists of an occlusive layer, and a reservoir layer consisting of a silicone polymer matrix containing a cosmetically and/or pharmaceutically active gelled aqueous phase in the form of dispersed inclusions, the whole being coupled with a removable protection. The matrix comprises a web on the side opposite the occlusive layer. This film can be applied to the skin to cause cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substances to enter via transcutaneous effects. The invention also relates to processes for the preparation of these films.

Abstract: The material according to the invention comprises a mesh (3) confining a hydratable gel (4) in a thin film is its holes. The gel is used for its properties of absorption of the water provided by a moistening of the surface of the skin; it is rehydrated at least partially and with the mesh resuming its natural flexibility molds to the irregularities of the body; then it dries under the influence of the normal skin temperature, the dry form being resumed while it continues to adhere to the skin. Because the gel is confined in its mesh, it can be pulled off all in one piece, so that the gel thereby performs a skin sloughing treatment.

Abstract: A skin cleansing composition, in the form of a rod or stick, contains a fatty phase, a water phase and a consistency agent. The consistency agent is a mixture of at least one fatty acid having 12 to 22 carbon atoms and a lactate of the formula. ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl or alkenyl radical having 13 to 17 carbon atoms or a mixture consisting essentially of said alkyl and/or alkenyl radicals.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition comprising from 0.2 to 6% by weight of at least one nonionic surface-active agent of formula (I)R.sub.1 --(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.n --OH (I)or (II) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a C.sub.8 -C.sub.18 fatty chain;R.sub.2 is a C.sub.8 -C.sub.16 alkyl; andn is from 10 to 40;and from 0.02 to 10% by weight of at least one nonionic polymer which is a poly-.beta.-alanine, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl cellulose, or hydroxypropylated derivative of guar gum, has low irritant behavior towards the skin.

Abstract: This compound contains an oily phase, at least one emulsifying agent and at least one abrasive substance, said compound being presented in anhydrous form and said abrasive substance, in suspension in the oily phase, being highly hydrosoluble and with an average particle size between 50 and 1000 microns. This compound allows the deep cleansing of the skin through exfoliant action.

Abstract: A gel comprises an aqueous solution of a vinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer and at least one amino acid having a basic character present in an amount effective to impart to said solution a pH ranging between 3 and 9. The gel is employed as a carrier in cosmetic compositions.
