  • Patent number: 7942289
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for closing an opening, particularly a man hole. The inventive device comprises a frame (4) and a cover (6) which is articulated to the frame (4) around a first axis (X-X) by means of a hinge (14). The device also comprises a locking means (16) having a locked configuration, whereby the cover is held open in a first position, and an unlocked configuration, whereby said cover (6) is disposed in a second position in which it can be pivoted around the axis (X-X). The aforementioned hinge (14) is designed such that, while resting on the frame, the cover (6) can pivot around a second horizontal axis (Y-Y). Moreover, the cover is pivoted around said second axis (Y-Y) in order to move same between the two positions. The invention is suitable for cast iron man holes.

  • Publication number: 20020141820
Abstract: For the purpose of anti-theft securing of a rigid cover (3) hingeably mounted on a frame (1) and comprising two side edges (32A, 32B) bearing two projecting parts (30A, 30B) defining an axis of articulation parallel to a hinging border (31) of the cover and engaging into two cells (10) of the frame which are at least partially overhung by a wall (13) of this frame, this cover comprises an elastic finger (36) extending parallel to the side edges (32A, 32B); the free end of the finger is situated in proximity to the hinging border (31) and co-operates with a pressure lug (14) born by the corresponding hinging edge (11) of the frame in order to permit, by elastic deformation of the finger (36) supported against the lug (14), positioning of the projecting parts (30A, 30B) into their respective cells (10) and their removal.

  • Patent number: 6053538
Abstract: A ball-and-socket joint of the type where the male end (1) of a first pipe element (2) has a spherical saddle (5) designed to be inserted and pivot in a specially designed housing with a spherical profile (11) which is set on the Y--Y axis socket of a second pipe element (4). A waterproof elastomer ring gasket (16) is set in a ring groove (15) in the socket's (3) internal surface. The groove is designed and located in such a way that it forms an expansion chamber for the elastomer of the gasket during the insertion of the spherical saddle into the socket and insures, in a locked position, the pressing of the gasket on the outside surface of the saddle located beyond the maximum diameter of said saddle measured in a direction perpendicular to the axis Y--Y of the socket. The gasket is thus subjected to a residual radial compression that guarantees the waterproofness of the assembly and simultaneously prohibits the dislocation of the pipe elements.

  • Patent number: 4840514
Abstract: A manhole assembly includes a circular cover 4 seated in a frame 1 and removably hinged thereto by a T-shaped lug 16 extending radially from the cover and lying within a matingly configured receptacle 5 defined in an upper edge of the frame. Lips 9 overhang opposite interior ends of the deepened receptacle trough 7 to restrain the pivot shaft 18 of the lug against vertical removal with the cover closed, in which position the lug has no contact with the receptacle surfaces to avoid clanking noise upon the passage of a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4763449
Abstract: A manhole for an urban sanitary system comprises a cover 2, a frame 1 for receiving the cover, a toric elastomeric sealing ring G1 interposed between the frame and the cover, and a soundproofing ring G2 on which the cover seats. The locking of the cover on the frame and the support of the cover on the rings G1and G2 are implemented by a plurality of flanges 4 recessed in the frame and bolted thereto.

  • Patent number: 4594026
Abstract: Two adjoining voussoirs 1, 2 in a tunnel shield are assembled by sandwiching a wedge 12 between their adjacent sides 7, 8. The wedge extends over the entire length and width of the voussoir sides, and has concave surfaces 12a of equal curvature radius to the convex surfaces of the voussoir sides. The angle .alpha. between the adjacent outer surfaces of the voussoirs may be adjusted by varying the radial disposition of the wedge before tightening the assembly. The full mating contact between the voussoir sides and the wedge evenly distributes the applied stress.

  • Patent number: 4494891
Abstract: A grating (1) is composed of a series of transversal elements (2) which each have a central hole (11) and, at each end and on each surface, a planar surface (5) for abutting an adjacent transversal element. These elements are clamped one against the other by a central crosspiece (3) traversing their central holes. During the passage of rolling loads, the surfaces (5) slide one on the other to ensure at least four effective seat points for the grating, preventing its rocking.

  • Patent number: 4318637
Abstract: Two voussoirs forming part of a tunnel lining have their adjacent longitudinal sides in mutual contact, each side having a convex radial profile. The voussoirs are rigidly locked relative to each other by circumferential bolts 10 and by wedges 15 and 16 wedged into opposing recesses in the adjacent sides by radial bolts 17. In comparison to the 180.degree. relative angular position of the voussoirs which occurs when the radius of the lining is equal to that of the voussoirs, an angular position, higher or lower than 180.degree., can be used in order to obtain a lining radius larger or smaller than that of the voussoirs.
