  • Publication number: 20050096726
Abstract: A device and method for treating pathological narrowing of fluid-carrying conduits of the human body (such as blood vessels) in an area of a bifurcation is disclosed. In particular, a stent system carries a self expandable noncylindrical stent, which is particularly suited for treating a widened portion of a blood vessel immediately proximal to a bifurcation. A stent delivery system is also disclosed, for delivering the stent such that a larger expanded diameter end of the stent faces the bifurcation, and a smaller expanded diameter end of the stent faces proximally in the main vessel.

  • Publication number: 20050033416
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for treating bifurcations of the vascular system, such as abdominal aneurysms at the bifurcation of the aorta and iliac arteries. A tubular implant having a proximal section, a distal section and a hinged connection therebetween is positioned across the bifurcation such that the proximal section extends into a first iliac and the distal section extends into the second iliac. The proximal and distal iliac sections are both advanced superiorly, causing the implant to fold at the hinge and advance across the aneurysm into the aorta. In one implementation, restraining sleeves are thereafter removed and the implant self expands to place aorta in fluid communication with the first and second iliacs, bypassing the bifurcation. Deployment catheters are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20040006381
Abstract: A device and method for treating pathological narrowing of fluid-carrying conduits of the human body (such as blood vessels) in an area of a bifurcation is disclosed. In particular, a stent delivery system configured to carry one or more of a pair of dissimilar stents. At least one of the stents is particularly suited for treating a widened portion of a blood vessel immediately proximal to a bifurcation. The stent delivery system can also include a handpiece adapted to selectively deliver the stents.

  • Patent number: 6666883
Abstract: This invention features a device (1) comprising at least one radially expansible segment (7, 8) with, in the expanded state, a transversal cross section substantially greater than the transversal cross section of one of the secondary ducts (3); one segment (6) with, in the expanded state, a truncated shape, corresponding to the shape of the bifurcation at the flared transition zone (11) which separates the main duct (2) from the secondary ducts (3), and a flexible link (9) between these two segments (6, 7), enabling their adjustment relative to each other, according to the orientation of the secondary duct (3) receiving the said segment (7) relative to the flared transition zone (11).

  • Publication number: 20030139803
Abstract: A device and method for treating fluid-carrying conduits of the human body (such as blood vessels) in an area of a bifurcation are disclosed. In particular, a stent delivery system is configured to carry a stent which tapers from a smaller diameter end to a larger diameter end. The stent is deployed in a vessel such that blood flows into the smaller diameter end of the stent and exits the larger diameter end. The stent is particularly suited for treating a widened portion of a blood vessel immediately proximal to a bifurcation.

  • Patent number: 6562058
Abstract: A removable intravascular filter system traps emboli and other solid materials in connection with intravascular medical procedures such as the placement of a stent or a catheter balloon. The system involves a hollow guidewire and an actuating wire movable within the guidewire to actuate the filter membrane. Embodiments of the filter system include biased closed and biased open filter configurations, and are easily routed through a patient's artery and deployed. Optionally, the actuating wire can be removed and a substitute wire can be inserted into the hollow guidewire. Control mechanisms can help the operator limit movement of the actuating wire during deployment and/or collapse of the filter membrane. Preferred filter membranes are configured to maximize both blood flow and emboli capture.

  • Patent number: 6334812
Abstract: An air curtain (14) is used to dynamically separate a zone (10) to be protected and a contaminating zone (12) communicating with each other through at least one separation zone (11), the air curtain being formed by simultaneously injecting at least two adjacent clean air jets into the same direction in the separation zone (11). More precisely, the air curtain (14) comprises a slow jet, in which the tongue (16) covers the entire separation zone (11) and a fast jet inserted between the slow jet and the zone (10) to be protected and for which the injection flow is such that it induces an air flow equal to approximately half the injection flow of the slow jet, on its surface in contact with the slow jet. Preferably, clean ventilation air is also injected into the zone (10) to be protected at a flow equal to at least the air flow induced by the surface of the air curtain in contact with the ventilation air, and in any case at a speed not less than 0.1 m/s.

  • Patent number: 6251006
Abstract: A device for dynamically separating two zones by a bufer zone and two clean air curtains. When transferring objects at high speed between two zones, a buffer zone which is connected to the two zones, forms a dynamic lock in order to separate them. a dynamic confinement system placed between each pair of adjacent communication zones forms an air curtain including two or three clean air jets. The buffer zone includes a blower ceiling and an intake grill facing it.
