  • Patent number: 4729457
Abstract: The strut, mounted in the vicinity of the brake application mechanism and bearing with each of its ends against each of the shoes (3, 4), has a device which automatially extends according to the wear of the friction components and which consists of a nut-and-bolt system (8-11) operated by a pawl (12) engaging with teeth (11) integral with the nut. The pawl (12) is mounted on an elastic leaf (13) integral with the strut and separated elastically therefrom by a rocker lever (14) which, by tilting, allows the leaf (13) to move toward the strut when the shoes are pushed apart, thus enabling the pawl (12) to cause the nut (11) to rotate and, therefore, the length of the strut to increase. A bimetallic strip (30) is capable of counteracting the tilting movement of the lever (14) when the brake is hot.

  • Patent number: 4699254
Abstract: The invention relates to spring (40) for a disc brake. The spring is mounted elastically in an opening (68) of a caliper and exerts on the support plates (26, 28) a radial force (F1) as well as a tangential force (F'5) ensuring that the plates assume a preferred lateral position. The spring (40) comprises a metal leaf with two main arms (42, 44) connected to each other and to a central arm (48) by a main fold (46), the spring having the general shape of a "trident", the end prongs of which comprise the main arms (42, 44), the latter cooperating by way of their free ends (50) with a surface (52) formed on the caliper (10) and by way of central portions (54) with bearing surfaces (56) formed on the support plates, the central arm (48) having at its free end (62) a Z-shaped fold cooperating with two surfaces (64, 66) of the caliper, the main fold (46) having a lug (74) cooperating radially with another surface (76) of the caliper (10).

  • Patent number: 4606436
Abstract: The invention relates to a multi-disc brake comprising a stationary rotary disc (1) and a moveable rotary disc (2) which is mounted on a splined sleeve (5) sliding on a splined part (3a) of a hub (3) of axis (4) and with which the disc (1) is solid. An assembly of friction pads (6 to 9) can interact with the discs (1,2) under the action of a hydraulic jack (13). • Patent number: 4588051
Abstract: The subject of the invention is a disc brake of the type with a caliper (1) mounted to slide on a fixed support (4) by a column (3). The caliper (1) incorporates a brake motor (9) acting directly on an inner pad and via the caliper (1) on an outer pad. The two pads are received so as to slide in an orifice (5) formed in the caliper (1). The pads are locked in the orifice by a key (20). According to the invention, the inner pad incorporates a semi-circular lug (25) mounted in a semi-circular receptacle (24) formed in the fixed support (4) so as to prevent the caliper (1) from tilting about the column (3) when the pads are in place and are locked by the key (20). The invention may be utilized with the brakes of motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4553645
Abstract: The subject of the invention is a disc brake of the type with a caliper (14) mounted so as to slide on a fixed support (2) by means of a pin (15). The caliper (14) incorporates a brake actuator acting directly on a friction pad (12) and, through the sliding caliper (14), upon the other pad (13). The pads (12, 13) are guided at least partially by transverse housings (7, 8) in the fixed support (2). According to the invention, the single pin (15) is positioned opposite the rear end portion of the inner friction pad (12), viewed in the direction of foward motion, in such a way that the orthogonal projection of the pin (15) onto the brake disc (6) is at least partially on the path of the latter, and viewed in the direction of motion slightly downstream of the corresponding guide housing (8) formed in the fixed support (2). Applicable to the braking systems of motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4533023
Abstract: The device (10), mounted elastically for example on a projecting part (30) of the caliper adjacent a projecting part (8) of the fixed support (5), incorporates a flat leaf surface (15) intended to be interposed between the cooperating slide surfaces of the caliper (31) and the support (82) and formed at the end of an intermediate leaf zone forming a flexible ramp surface (14) which cooperates, when fitting the caliper into position, with the adjacent part (8) of the fixed support (5) so as to cause the flat surface (15) to deflect and thus ensure automatic locking of the caliper, the unlocking being easily achieved manually by a similar retraction of the flat slide surface (15). The device (10) is made in a single piece from a sheet of stainless spring steel.

  • Patent number: 3942827
Abstract: The invention relates to a mechanical control device for a disc brake. The mechanical control device comprises two members 28, 32, 128, 132 extensible in an axial direction with respect to the brake disc upon relative rotation therebetween. These members are respectively connected to a control member 34, 134 and to a piston 20, 120 associated with a friction member 22, 122. Adjusting means 56, 156 comprise an annular element 58, 158 cooperating by way of one-way toothings 60, 62 with the member 28, 128 connected to the control member in order to turn relative to member 28, 128 upon brake actuation, when the wear of the friction member 22, 122 is greater than a predetermined value. Upon return of the control member 34, 134 to its idle position, a friction spring 48, 148 inserted between the piston 20, 120 and the member 28, 128 permits this member 28, 128 to turn relative to member 32, 132, thus adjusting for the wear of friction member 22, 122.
