  • Patent number: 4690075
Abstract: An ignition and combustion supporting burner for pulverized solid fossil fuel comprises an axial conduit for feeding the pulverized fuel in a primary combustion supporting gas. The shape of a refractory tap-hole enables the initial part of the flame to be confined. A conduit for feeding tertiary combustion supporting gas is concentric with the tap-hole and partially or totally surrounds it. The burner also incorporates a flame detector device and an igniter in the refractory tap-hole or in the axial conduit. The axial conduit is provided with translation means providing for adjustment of the length of a chamber for preliminary mixing of the fuel and part of the combustion supporting gas comprised between the end of this conduit and the inlet of the tap-hole.

  • Patent number: 4667733
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for protecting heat exchangers placed in a duct (1) for smoke filled with fine particles of ash, e.g. coming from a pulverized coal boiler. The heat exchangers are constituted by parallel grids (10) each comprising a main region (A) fitted with rectilinear lengths (11) of tube extending perpendicularly to the direction of smoke movement, and two end regions (B) fitted with bends (12) and rectilinear lengths (13) of tube extending parallel to the direction of smoke movement. The protective device is constituted by parallel panels (20) which are parallel to the grids (10) of tubes, with each panel (20) being placed between two grids (10) and at each end region (B).

  • Patent number: 4342570
Abstract: The apparatus comprises: (a) stacked bundles of parallel corrugated wafers (4) between which the liquid droplet charged gas or vapour is made to flow, said bundles being housed between panels (e.g. 1) which are welded round all their edges to a support structure so as to define a horizontal gas or vapour flow direction between adjacent wafers; (b) gutters (9, 10, 11) for collecting the liquid running down the wafers, each gutter being located below a bundle of wafers; and (c) liquid drain tubes (12, 13, 14) for draining away the liquid collected by the gutters. The lower edges of the wafers are notched in such a manner as to catch drops of liquid flowing along said lower edges and cause them to drop into the gutters rather than being entrained by the flow of the gas or vapour.Such apparatus is used in separator-superheaters as used in power stations that generate electricity by expanding steam through turbines.

  • Patent number: 3942945
Abstract: A burner for the direct heating of a fluid by the combustion of an assisted spray liquid and a gaseous substance. Above a grating are arranged spray nozzles for the spraying liquid and injectors for the gas. The said spray nozzles and injectors have independent and respective feed systems. They are arranged in space so as to enable the flowing of the fluid to be heated up, in such a way that the combustion produces a distributed giving off of heat insuring the homogenous heating up thereof in combination with convection means contributing to the stirring thereof. The burner is applicable, to steam generators, to the heating of premises and to the depollution of polluted smoke.
