Abstract: An arrangement for feeding transport containers of a sorting conveyor with flat mailed items includes a linear conveyor, having a direction of conveyance and a rearward end, for engaging one surface of the respective mailed items in a planar frictional lock and transferring the mailed items in the direction of conveyance to the transport containers at the rearward end of the linear conveyor. A rotary body having a cylindrical surface including a contact region and being rotatable around an axis extending perpendicularly to the direction of conveyance of the linear conveyor is arranged at the rearward end of the linear conveyor for contacting an opposite surface of the respective mailed item in a frictionally locked manner with the contact region of its cylindrical surface during transfer of the mailed items to the transport vehicles.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for processing shipping articles provided with shipping addresses. The apparatus comprises a device for transporting the shipping articles along a transport path. A device is disposed in the transport path for automatically reading the shipping addresses. An assessment device automatically assesses the read shipping addresses. The individual shipping articles are selectively deposited into cells of an intermediate storage device disposed in the transport path following the reading of the shipping address. A detection device detects an association between each cell and the shipping article deposited therein and in response to an assessment of the shipping address by the assessment device, produces a first removal signal for removing the shipping article from the cell and conveying the shipping article back to the transport path.

Abstract: An apparatus for loading containers of a distributing conveyor with flat product includes an endless belt including a plurality of ribs that define at least one compartment that forms a support surface for supporting the flat product. The endless belt is moved in a cyclical motion between resting positions for conveying the flat product supported on the support surface into a container. A cover element forms with the at least one compartment a laterally open shaft into which the flat product is deposited.

Abstract: A conveyor apparatus for further transporting individually conveyed, flat products includes a rotatingly driven pulling element and spaced receiving apparatuses that can be loaded and emptied secured to the pulling element for being moved in a conveying direction. The receiving apparatuses each included two side walls which are respectively spaced in the conveying direction and form a receiving chamber having an opening for the products. A mechanism is provided for widening the opening in the receiving chamber of the respective apparatuses for loading product into the chamber and a further mechanism is provided for moving the receiving apparatuses into a hanging position with a predetermined inclination in which the openings are downwardly-oriented so that the product can be ejected through the opening.

Abstract: Tongs for releasably clamping newspapers or other sheet-like commodities for movement with a conveyor have a housing connectable to the conveyor, a first jaw provided on the housing, a second jaw which is pivotable in or on the housing between open and closed positions adjacent and remote from the first jaw, respectively, and a mechanism for pivoting the second jaw. The mechanism employs a lever which is pivotable relative to the housing with and with respect to the second jaw between first and second end positions which respectively correspond to the open and closed positions of the second jaw, one or more springs which oppose pivotal movements of the lever relative to the second jaw during pivoting of the lever to its second end position, and a motion transmitting unit which operates between the lever and the spring or springs and is caused to move through a dead-center position during each movement of the lever between its first and second end positions.

Abstract: A conveyor assembly with uniformly spaced-apart grippers for sheet-like printed products wherein the grippers are pulled along a plastic guide by one or more endless flexible bands which replace conventional chains. Each gripper has one, two or more roller followers which are movable along one, two or more tracks defined by the guide. The guide has one or more plastic rails which are affixed to a strip-shaped metallic carrier. The grippers have pairs of jaws one of which supports the follower or followers and the other of which is pivotably mounted on the one jaw and is permanently biased to an operative positioned or to an inoperative position by a prestressed leaf spring which is integral with the second jaw.
