  • Publication number: 20050115586
Abstract: The present invention comprises a method and apparatus for cleaning various printing press components. The invention comprises hard and semi-hard scrapers, and allows the use of soft scrapers, to remove printing residues by lamination in conjunction with one or more cleaning agents. The cleaning agents can include gelled and or milky compositions. The gelled cleaning compositions of the present invention reduce or eliminate the emission of volatile organic compounds. The present invention can be used in conjunction with, or instead of, conventional de-inking apparatuses.

  • Publication number: 20040129298
Abstract: The present invention is related to a procedure and a mechanism mainly made to achieve all of the de-inking, cleaning and maintenance functions for the various parts of printing presses of all types, printing paper sheet by paper sheet or continuously. It also concerns in particular all their inking, soaking, offset printing plaques, printing cylinder blankets, counter-pressure cylinders, inkers, etc. and the cleaning of all printing materials including de-inking, cleaning and maintenance requires a constant elimination of residues such as inks, glazes through either a scraping action or through their successive dispersals in a solvent environment.

  • Patent number: 6584901
Abstract: The invention described here concerns the operation and mode of cleaning of ink fountains of printing presses, sheet-fed, continuous, offset, letterpress or similar, and relates to a mode of construction of composite fountain blades (16), by means of independent strips (17), endowed them with perfect flatness of their active parts and displacement, through their full range of use, with good parallelism with the fountain roller, and also independent adjusting mechanisms to control these independent strips, these same independent adjusting mechanisms being, if desired, equipped with eccentric discs (28, 29), support mechanisms for the scraper spatulas and disposable fountain liners and removable fountain blocks with automatic adjustment and retention of the sides of the disposable fountain liners, and also threaded sleeves providing mechanical support for the adjusting screws and a reduction in their movement.

  • Patent number: 5010816
Abstract: A printing press of a type that will operate with a continuous web has a device for taking up slack between the printing of each format. An electrically actuated sprocket drive is located at the opposite region for pulling the web forward from a blanket cylinder and press cylinder. A tube locates below the web in the input region. The tube has apertures and is connected to a continuous source of vacuum. The vacuum applies a force to cause the web to adhere to the tube. A web tightener will move the tube when pressure between the press and blanket cylinders releases. As the tube reaches the end of the web tightening position, the web tightener will expose a portion of the apertures to the atmosphere, bleeding off the vacuum.

  • Patent number: 4889051
Abstract: A detachable printing unit for offset printing presses, which can be incorporated during their manufacture or fitted to existing presses, said unit being defined in that it is composed of an independent inking module 16 (FIG. 3) comprising all the components required for effecting in chronological operating order the moistening and inking of an offset plate ready for printing on a blanket, and a likewise independent detachable blanket cylinder 7C. One embodiment of the invention is defined in that the numbering device with which the press is equipped (FIG. 6, View B) is replaced by the blanket cylinder (FIG. 7, View B) of the printing unit working with the inking module 16 (FIG. 3), and use is made of the drive mechanism 8 (FIG. 6) and pressure adjustment mechanism 9B provided in the press to obtain for each printing cycle, instead of the numbering, an additional color obtained by color superimposition with the aid of the pressure cylinder 4.

  • Patent number: 4815376
Abstract: Offset printing press which comprises, in combination, a set of means making it possible for it to carry out, either independently or simultaneously, sheet-fed or web-fed printing. These webs are presented equally well either as perforated and prefolded pages or as reels. A set of mechanical movement pieces, working together with the removable components, makes it possible, depending on the types of printing to be carried out, to provide the press with twenty possibilities of different printing modes. A movable press-cylinder 17 (FIG. 3), working together with the blanket of the removable blanket cylinder 3A, makes it possible to prevent the web-fed printed matter, during its printing, from passing through the press and, by so doing, to make these two modes of feeding and printing, sheet-fed and web-fed, totally independent of each other. The same type of removable device as that fitted on the mixed press, also mounted on a sliding frame 64 (FIG.
