  • Publication number: 20070207331
Abstract: Disclosed are azo colorant compounds containing one or more ethylenically-unsaturated groups polymerizable or copolymerizable with ethylenically-unsaturated compositions typically used in coating compositions. The azo colorantcompounds are polymerizable by photopolymerization or free radical polymerization techniques with ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. The copolymerized colorants produce colored compositions such as colored acrylic polymers, e.g., polymers produced from acrylate and methacrylate esters, colored polystyrenes, and similar colored polymeric materials derived from other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. The ethylenically-unsaturated colorant compounds may be used in coatings that are applied to wood, glass, metal, thermoplastics and the like.

  • Publication number: 20060282960
Abstract: This invention pertains to certain novel colorant compounds containing one or more ethylenically-unsaturated, photopolymerizable radicals that may be copolymerized (or cured) with ethylenically-unsaturated monomers to produce colored compositions such as colored acrylic polymers. Suitable compositions having the present colorants copolymerized therein include, e.g., polymers produced from acrylate and methacrylate esters, colored polystyrenes, and similar colored polymeric materials derived from other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. The present invention also pertains to processes for preparing the photopolymerizable colorant compounds. The ethylenically unsaturated colorant compounds may be suitable for use in coatings that are applied to wood, glass, metal, thermoplastics and the like.

  • Publication number: 20060115516
Abstract: This invention relates to polymerizable ultraviolet light absorbers and yellow colorants and their use in ophthalmic lenses. In particular, this invention relates to polymerizable ultraviolet light absorbing methine compounds and yellow compounds of the methine and anthraquinone classes that block ultraviolet light and/or violet-blue light transmission through ophthalmic lenses.

  • Publication number: 20060110430
Abstract: Polymerizable light absorbing azo dyes are disclosed useful as monomers in the formation of devices such as, but not limited to ocular lenses. Specifically, intraocular lenses (IOL) are disclosed wherein one or more of the light absorbing dye is covalently bonded to other structural polymers though ethylene unsaturated groups. The resulting IOLs possess light absorbing properties without significant amounts of free (un-bound) azo dye molecules present in the final structural polymer matrix.

  • Publication number: 20050065247
Abstract: Liquid coating compositions are disclosed having improved whiteness. The compositions may comprise a polyester or alkyd polymer having copolymerized therein a toning amount of (A) a two-component colorant system comprising a blue toner dye and either a red or violet toner dye, or both; or (B) a single-component colorant system comprising a reddish-blue toner dye, optionally including one or more of the red or violet toner dyes. This toner polymer can act as a surfactant or a stabilizer, and may be added prior to an emulsion polymerization, or may be used as an additive in water-borne or solvent-borne coating compositions.

  • Publication number: 20050049425
Abstract: This invention pertains to certain novel red anthraquinone colorant compounds containing one or more ethylenically-unsaturated (e.g., vinyl), photopolymerizable radicals that may be copolymerized (or cured) with ethylenically-unsaturated monomers to produce colored compositions such as colored acrylic polymers. Suitable compositions having the present colorants copolymerized therein include, e.g., polymers produced from acrylate and methacrylate esters, colored polystyrenes, and similar colored polymeric materials derived from other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. The novel colorants possess good fastness (stability) to ultraviolet (UV) light, good solubility in vinyl monomers and good color strength. The present invention also pertains to processes for preparing the photopolymerizable colorant compounds. The ethylenically unsaturated colorant compounds may be suitable for use in coatings that are applied to wood, glass, paper, metal, thermoplastics and the like.
