  • Patent number: 6085897
Abstract: A connector for a flat belt having an end with front and back faces has a U-section end clip having front and back legs adapted to embrace the belt end against the respective faces thereof and a bight portion interconnecting outer ends of the legs. Each leg is formed with at least two throughgoing holes that align with the holes of the leg on the opposite face of the belt. A relatively soft metal plate extending a full width of the belt end lies between the front leg and the front face of the belt. Staples driven through the holes from the front face of the belt pierce through the soft metal plate and are crimped over on the back leg.

  • Patent number: 5701638
Abstract: A connector for securing together two belt ends has a pair of similar U-section clips each having a pair of legs secured to the respective belt end and a plurality of spaced knuckles. The knuckles are interleaved to form a transversely extending passage, and a connector rod extends through the passage and interconnects the clips. The rod is made of a hard austenitic manganese steel.

  • Patent number: 5644836
Abstract: An apparatus for securing a U-shaped clip to the end of a belt with a staple has a die having a seat shaped to fit a belt end over which is fitted the clip, a presser head displaceable transversely toward and away from the die and having a passage holding the staple, and a plunger displaceable toward and away from the die in the passage of the presser head. Respective piston-cylinder units connected to the presser head and plunger and are pressurizable to displace same toward the die. A hydraulic pump supplies fluid under pressure to a multiport valve connected to the piston-cylinder units for first pressurizing the presser unit to compress the clip on the belt end and then for pressurizing the plunger unit for forcing the staple through the belt end and clip.

  • Patent number: 5544801
Abstract: An apparatus for stapling a belt-connecting clip fitted to a belt end has a crimping die, a housing fixable relative to the crimping die and forming a vertical guide, and a hold-down device engageable with the clip on the belt end on the crimping die, having an outer guide ring vertically slidable in the housing, and forming a vertically throughgoing guide bore adapted to hold staples engageable through the clip and belt end on the crimping die. A penetrating die has an extension projecting vertically downward through the guide bore and engageable with the staples therein. A spindle/nut mechanism in the housing can vertically displace the penetrating die between an upper position with its extension above and out of contact with the staples, clip, and belt end and a lower position engaged down on the staples and forcing same through the clip and belt end and against the crimping die.
