Patent number: 10830941Abstract: Disclosed is a luminaire (1) comprising a circular light guide (10), the light guide comprising an edge portion (11) in between a first major surface (15) and a second major surface (17), at least part (16) of the first major surface guide tapering in a direction away from said edge portion; a plurality of solid state lighting elements (40) arranged along said edge portion; and a plurality of outcoupling elements (30) arranged in a pattern on the second major surface of the circular light guide. The luminaire (1) may further include a controller (50) for individually controlling the solid state lighting elements (40) such as to configure the luminous output, e.g. the beam profile, of the luminaire.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2017Date of Patent: November 10, 2020Assignee: SIGNIFY HOLDING B.V.Inventors: Thomas Deflandre, Jean-Francois Laporte

Patent number: 10422943Abstract: A luminaire comprises a light guide having light outcoupling elements at one side and a flat light output surface at the other side, which is visible in use of the luminaire. An array of solid state lighting elements is arranged around the edge of the light guide facing the general light output direction. A respective reflector is associated with each solid state lighting element for reflecting light into the light guide. By providing the lighting elements all facing the general light output direction, they can be formed as a single unit, or as a small number of sub-units, thereby simplifying the manufacture. The design of the reflectors, the positioning of the lighting elements, and the design of the light outcoupling elements together may be used to create an asymmetrical light output beam shape. Actuation of different lighting elements may be used to provide different asymmetric light outputs.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2018Date of Patent: September 24, 2019Assignee: SIGNIFY HOLDING B.V.Inventors: Fernando Munoz Fernandez, Jean-Francois Laporte, Thomas Deflandre, Arno Vredenborg, Herman Vos

Patent number: 8021027Abstract: A conventional acorn style globe is described incorporating the utilization of LED's as an illumination source. A supporting heat dissipation plate is provided which extends to the exterior periphery of the acorn style luminaire allowing heat to transfer from the LED's directly to the exterior of the acorn style luminaire while maintaining the integrity of an acorn style globe construction. A plurality of individually orientable lenses on each of the LED's positioned within the interior of the globe allow for efficient downlight and desirable optical characteristics. Interior access may be provided through removal of the globe top to thereby provide accessibility to the LED board mounted on the heat transfer plate.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2008Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Philips Electronics LtdInventors: Guy Galipeau, Michel Fortin, Jean-Francois Laporte, Jonathan Hardy
