  • Publication number: 20130244973
Abstract: Combinations of therapeutic compounds for prophylaxis or treatment of hyperlipidemia and hyperlipidemia related disorders, such as hypercholesterolemia and the resultant atherosclerosis in a mammal. The combinations are useful for reducing serum cholesterol, and/or cholesteryl ester, triglycerides, phospholipids and fatty acids in a mammal. The methods of the preferred embodiments comprise administering to a mammal a first amount of polychitosamine and a second amount of an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin).
    Type: Application
    Filed: May 3, 2013
    Publication date: September 19, 2013
    Applicant: Thorne Research, Inc.
Inventors: Andrré Aubé, Jean-Guy Lehoux, Ryszard Brzezinski, Gilles Dupuis

  • Publication number: 20090149639
Abstract: Compositions of salted out chitosan polymer containing mixture of certain salting out salts as well as methods for making and using same are disclosed. Chitosan polymer preparations produced by such methods are substantially free of chitosanase, undesirable salts and excess acid and retain their physiological as well as biological and physico-chemical properties. The chitosan preparations of the present invention are valuable for the dispensing of biologically active chitosan in forms of drugs or food supplement. Most of these preparations easily dissolve in an aqueous acidic milieu such as the one of the stomach.

  • Publication number: 20080293671
Abstract: The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a fibrate (e.g. ciprofibrate, gemfibrozil, benzafibrate, and fenofibrate) and a polychitosamine (e.g. chitosan) having molecular weights of less than 650 Kda and degrees of deacetylation of from 70% to 100%. Uses of said compositions for the treatment of hyperlipidemia and associated conditions (e.g. hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease) or as functional foods are also disclosed.
