  • Patent number: 6464838
Abstract: A process for the recovery of compounds present in a mixture containing residues of heavy products is provided. The process includes conducting a reaction and distillation to obtain the compounds and residues and macerating the residues before they can set to mass. The residues can then be destroyed. The process is particularly suitable for the treatment of the residues obtained in the preparation of phenol from cumene.

  • Patent number: 6245926
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for obtaining alkylmonohydrogenohalogenosilanes (AHHS), for example Me2HSiCl.Said AHHS are prepared by redistribution from MeHSiCl2 and Me3HSiCl in the presence of a catalyst such as AlCl3, which can start a parasitic disproportionation which affects the AHHS produced. In order to avoid this, the method consists in using an inhibitor which neutralizes AlCl3 after redistribution, The problem which still prevails and on which the present invention is based is related to the fact that during distillation, which aims at separating the required AHHS, the latter are again subjected to the parasitic disproportionation.

  • Patent number: 6080814
Abstract: A poly(vinyl alcohol) purification process is described, which includes heat treating a poly(vinyl alcohol) under agitation in an atmosphere unsaturated by water and with a water vapor mass content of 20 to 100%. The process of the invention may also include an additional drying step. A poly(vinyl alcohol) with an alcohol content, more particularly a methanol content, of lower than 1% and an ester content, more particularly a methyl acetate content, of lower than 1% is also described, which is provided in the form of flakes a few millimeters in size or of a powder with an average particle size advantageously higher than 600 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 6043399
Abstract: The present invention lies in the field of the manufacture of phenol from cumene. The subject of the invention is a process for the continuous preparation of cumene hydroperoxide by oxidation, in the liquid phase, of cumene in the presence of oxygen. The process according to the invention is carried out in the presence of at least one agent chosen from the hydroxide or the carbonate of an alkali metal and/or alkaline-earth metal; the said agent being used in an amount of between 2 and 10 ppb (expressed as sodium hydroxide) with respect to the amount of cumene introduced. The invention likewise relates to the use of the hydroperoxide thus obtained for preparing phenol.
