  • Patent number: 11882314
Abstract: Disclosed here are methods, systems, and devices for measuring visual quality degradation of digital content caused by an encoding process. There is received first data for a digital content item, which is not encoded by the encoding process, and second data for the digital content item, which is encoded by the encoding process. For a given artefact type, the first data and the second data are processed to obtain a first quality metric measuring visual quality degradation in the digital content item attributable to the given artefact type caused by the encoding process. A stored mapping corresponding to the given artefact type is applied to the first quality metric to obtain a second quality metric which measures visual quality degradation in the digital content item attributable to the given artefact type caused by the encoding process and approximates subjective assessment of the digital content item by a human visual system.

  • Publication number: 20230362380
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, devices, and methods for encoding a plurality of video channels in a shared resource environment. For a plurality of frames in the video channels, complexity metrics are computed, each estimating content complexity of a corresponding frame; and encoding budget metrics are computed, each defining an allocation of bits for encoding the corresponding frame. The encoding budget metrics of a particular video channel are computed to reduce anticipated encoding distortion in the particular video channel. A resource allocation is determined that allocates a portion of total resources of the shared resource environment for encoding each of the video channels. The resource allocation is determined to reduce anticipated encoding distortion across the video channels based on the encoding budgets and the complexity metrics. Encoding configurations are selected based on the resource allocation, each for encoding a corresponding video channel.

  • Patent number: 9635362
Abstract: A system is proposed for dynamic reduction of the entropy of a signal upstream to a data compression device. The signal includes a set of successive frames. The system has a filtering decision module that provides a setpoint value of filtering and a filtering module that filters the signal according to the setpoint value of filtering and gives a filtered signal to the data compression device. The system further includes a module for obtaining a piece of information on complexity for each frame of the signal. The filtering decision module is adapted to determining the setpoint value of filtering, for each frame of the signal, as a function inter alia of the piece of information on complexity.

  • Patent number: 8811498
Abstract: A method for compressing video operates by first deleting one or more video packets from binary train to provide a reduced binary train. Thereafter, error masking is performed on the reduced binary train to yield a corrected degraded local decoded image which is the image reconstructed on the basis of the reduced binary train and of the masking algorithm. The reduction in the binary train is validated as a function of the quality of the corrected degraded local decoded image. Lastly one of the reduced binary train or of the binary train, is selected depending on whether or not there is validation.

  • Patent number: 7990477
Abstract: Method and apparatus for detecting transitions in a video sequence, which include detecting an abrupt transition including, for each image It?2k included in said video sequence and with a processing time rank t?2k: calculating a first distance D(It?k), between an image It?k and a reference image for said image It?k, which precedes said image It?k in the video sequence; calculating a second distance D(It?2k), between an image It?2k and a reference image for said image It?2k, which precedes said image It?2k in the video sequence; calculating a third distance D(It?3k), between an image It?3k and a reference image for said image It?3k, which precedes said image It?3k in the video sequence; calculating a criterion C? indicating whether said second distance D(It?2k) is significantly greater than the largest of the first and third distances, D(It?k) and D(It?3k); deciding, according to said criterion C?, on the belonging of the image It?2k to an abrupt transition.
