  • Publication number: 20180103418
Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments for Machine Type Communication (MTC). The techniques disclosed may reduce signaling by transmitting MTC data over control planes and avoiding a full cycle of connection procedures typically required for transmission. MTC data may be directly appended to a control plane message. In addition, in order to reduce the signaling load, a WTRU may autonomously release the connection without being told by the network. Techniques may be used to indicate a network provider's machine type communication (MTC) capability. The MTC services or capabilities that may be provided by a respective network operator may be communicated to a WTRU.

  • Publication number: 20180092108
Abstract: Described herein is a silent period method and apparatus for dynamic spectrum management. The methods include configuration and coordination of silent periods across an aggregated channel in a wireless communication system. A silent period management entity (SPME) dynamically determines silent period schedules for channels based on system and device information and assigns a silent period duration and periodicity for each silent period. The SPME may reconfigure the silent period schedule based on system delay, system throughput, channel quality or channel management events. A silent period interpretation entity (SPIE) receives and implements the silent period schedule. The silent periods for the channels may be synchronized, independent, or set-synchronized.

  • Patent number: 9930568
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described. According to a method, a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) communicates with a base station using a first base station operating frequency and a set of cell configuration parameters. The WTRU receives information indicating a second base station operating frequency to use for communications with the base station at a given time. The WTRU communicates with the base station using the second base station operating frequency and the same set of cell configuration parameters on or after the given time.

  • Patent number: 9913206
Abstract: A method and apparatus for searching for closed subscriber group (CSG) cells are described. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) transmits, to a network of CSG cells, a measurement/cell-search gap request message including a cause value having at least one bit that indicates whether the request message was transmitted due to a manual cell search command or a WTRU autonomous determination. The WTRU receives a measurement/cell-search gap allocation message from the network in response to the measurement/cell-search request message. The WTRU also may determine whether it has a discontinuous reception (DRX) gap that is long enough to read a master information block (MIB) and a system information block (SIB) of a neighboring CSG cell. If the DRX gap is not long enough, the WTRU may transmit a measurement/cell-search gap request message to the network, or autonomously tune away from a cell currently serving the WTRU to read the MIB and SIB.

  • Patent number: 9882684
Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating supplementary cells in licensed exempt (LE) spectrum. An aggregating cell operating in a frequency division duplex (FDD) licensed spectrum is aggregated with a LE supplementary cell operating in a time sharing mode for uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) operations. The LE supplementary cell may be an FDD supplementary cell dynamically configurable between an UL only mode, a DL only mode, and a shared mode, to match requested UL and DL traffic ratios. The LE supplementary cell may be a time division duplex (TDD) supplementary cell. The TDD supplementary cell may be dynamically configurable between multiple TDD configurations. A coexistence capability for coordinating operations between the LE supplementary cell with other systems operating in the same channel is provided. Coexistence gaps are provided to measure primary/secondary user usage and permit other systems operating in the LE supplementary cell channel to access the channel.

  • Publication number: 20170353857
Abstract: A shared spectrum manager (SSM) may enable spectrum access for Tier 2 Users (T2Us) and Tier 3 Users (T3Us) while provisioning quality of access (QoA) in a dynamic shared spectrum environment while ensuring sufficient spectrum and interference protection for Tier 1 Users (T1Us). The SSM may enable new user spectrum authorizations by sending, to a regulator, a request for administrative information, and receiving, from the regulator, a policy and user authorization information for at least one user. The SSM may register a T2U with or without contacting the regulator. The SSM may perform quality based admission control by receiving periodic measurements from a master device of each T2U with an active frequency assignment indicating a Quality of Operation (QoO) experienced by the respective T2U, maintaining a map of an effective QoOs for a plurality of T2Us, and categorizing protection contours associated with each of the plurality of T2Us.

  • Publication number: 20170332321
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described. A long term evolution (LTE) base station includes a transmitter and a processor. The processor coordinates with another LTE base station and, based on the coordination, determine subframes during which the LTE base station is to reduce transmission power so that the other base station can transmit on a same carrier frequency in the determined subframes. The transmitter and the processor send configuration information to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The configuration information includes a medium access control (MAC) based discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration and an indication of subframes during which the base station is to reduce transmission power. The transmitter and the processor transmit data to the WTRU in subframes based on the determined subframes and the MAC based DRX configuration of the WTRU.

  • Publication number: 20170325284
Abstract: A method and apparatus for supporting machine-type communications (MTC) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may configure itself to operate in a mobile-originated-only mode. The WTRU may perform no, or a subset of, radio resource control (RRC) idle and/or non-access stratum (NAS) idle/standby state procedures in the mobile-originated-only mode. For example, the WTRU may perform cell reselection but not paging monitoring in the mobile-originated-only mode. Alternatively, the WTRU may perform paging monitoring but not cell reselection and location update. The operation in the mobile-originated-only mode may be triggered explicitly or implicitly. For example, the WTRU may operate in the mobile-originated-only mode if an inactivity timer expires. The WTRU may switch the mode in accordance with a pre-configured schedule. After transition of the operation mode, the WTRU may send a message to the network indicating such mode switch.
