  • Patent number: 5456813
Abstract: A metal connection tab is joined to an electrochemical cell structure having a foam-type support. The support is formed with a porosity of greater than 90%. Thereafter the support is filled with active material. A connection tab is formed of expanded metal or of perforated metal foil having perforations occupying more than 40% of its surface area, and is formed to include two branches that are fixed to each other and that are disposed on opposite sides of the support previously filled with active material. The branches are compressed against opposite sides of the support such that the three-dimensional porous structure of the support and the connection tab are caused to interpenetrate and bind together.

  • Patent number: 5086969
Abstract: A method of bonding a metal connection onto an electrode for an electrochemical cell including a foam type substrate (2), which substrate has been filled with active material and then compressed, the method being characterized by the facts that: at least one perforation (3, 4) is formed through said electrode; a metal tongue (5) is compressed against said performation and the surrounding zone, which tongue penetrates superficially into a first face of the electrode; and said connection (11) is welded onto said metal tongue (5) through said perforation (3, 4).

  • Patent number: 4231631
Abstract: A sealed through-connector in which an electrical connection passes through a hole (4) in a single or double wall made of a plastic material, said connector including a first annular seal ring which seals the annular zone of the orifice left free by the connection and being compressed axially. According to the invention, the connector is axially compressed by clamping means which are applied on either side of the wall (1) to two metal parts (9,10) which each have a surface substantially parallel to said wall (1), the distance between said surfaces and therefore the compression of the seal (8) being defined by the insertion of a metal distance member (5).Use: Storage batteries which use hard metal connection parts which melt at high temperatures, e.g. alkaline electrolyte storage batteries.
