  • Publication number: 20090155418
Abstract: The invention relates to the abfB-1 gene of Penicillium funiculosum that codes for a type B ?-L-arabinofuranosidase. This enzyme ?-L-arabinofuranosidase can be incorporated in nutritional additives or in foods for animals for which it improves the digestibility and thus the nutritional value.

  • Publication number: 20080194553
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of one or more compounds that are capable of increasing the serum level of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) for the preparation of a therapeutical composition, in particular in the form of a food supplement, for the treatment of subjects suffering from serious fatigue and exhausting symptoms, burn-out and chronic fatigue syndrome. The same composition can also be used by patients suffering from depression, Alzheimer disease, irritated bowel syndrome, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, or for anti-aging, immune therapy and recovery after exercise. The composition also has a use in veterinary applications for increasing the growth and immunity in animals.

  • Publication number: 20050196835
Abstract: The present invention relates, for example, to an isolated DNA comprising a sequence which encodes a cold-active beta galatosidase that is specific for lactose and has a stable enzymatic activity at a temperature below 8° C. In embodiments of the invention, the DNA is isolated from the psychrophilic bacterium Pseudoalteromonas haloplanktis.

  • Publication number: 20040096546
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fat-containing milk substitute for young stock, such as calves, and for poultry, consisting of a particulate basic component which contains fat, in which more than 50 wt. % of the fat has been introduced into the capillaries of the basic component, with less than 50 wt. % of the fat being present at the surface of the particles of the basic component. The invention furthermore relates to the method for preparing said fat-containing milk substitute for young stock, such as calves, and for poultry, by mixing fat with the particles of the basic component of the milk substitute and introducing fat into the basic component at an elevated temperature and under a reduced pressure.

  • Patent number: 6102915
Abstract: An instrument including a cutter (2) mountable on a cutter 32 spindle (1) and shaped in such a way that it also acts as a test cup 33 engageable by a test head of a femoral prosthesis. The cutter (2) may be attached to the pelvis (34) by means of nails (29), and the cutter position is detected by sighting means (32) on the cutter spindle (1). The sighting means (32) are then used to arrange the final cup in the same position as the cutter (2) so that the position of the final cup may be selected in such a way that the risk of joint dislocation is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6030417
Abstract: The prosthesis of the invention comprises a shaft (1) with its upper end (3) linked to a neck (2) connecting it to a spherical joint head. The shaft (1) comprises a proximal area (H1, H2) with a reversed spiral double twist, over a length substantially equal to one third or half of the length (H) of the shaft (1). The proximal segment (H2) of the proximal area and the distal area (H3) are generally rectilinear in the antero-posterior plane, while the distal segment (H1) of the proximal area is curved with the center offset frontwards. The invention provides a prosthesis that fits more effectively in the medullary channel and does not need cement to fix it.
