  • Patent number: 6214931
Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesives comprised of an aqueous dispersion of a copolymer of acrylic esters obtained in the presence of a crosslinking monomer carrying a functional group are set forth, said copolymer having a glass transition temperature which does not exceed 0° C. The crosslinking monomer is methacrylic anhydride. The resulting adhesive displays improved adhesion and cohesion properties.

  • Patent number: 5525370
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a matte coating on an article is described, which comprises applying to said article a powdered thermosetting composition comprising as binder a mixture of a linear carboxyl group-containing polyester and a glycidyl group-containing acrylic copolymer and curing the thus coated article at a temperature of from 160.degree. C. to 210.degree. C. for a period of up to about 30 minutes. The polyester has an acid number of 20 to 50 mg KOH/g, and is the esterification product of a hydroxyl group-containing polyester with an organic dicarboxylic acid. The acrylic copolymer is obtained from 5% to 30% by weight of glycidyl acrylate or glycidyl methacrylate and 70% to 95% by weight of methyl methacrylate, whereby up to 25% of the total weight of methyl methacrylate can be replaced by another vinyl monomer, said acrylic copolymer having a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of from about 4,000 to about 10,000.

This composition is particularly useful for the preparation of powdered paints and varnishes which can be applied with an electrostatic spray gun and cured at a temperature of from about 160.degree. to 210.degree. C. to produce matte finishes of excellent quality.
