  • Patent number: 4617098
Abstract: Lithium metal is continuously prepared by, in a specially adapted electrolytic cell, (i) continuously electrolyzing the lithium chloride which comprises a mixture of molten salts, which mixture comprises the medium of electrolysis and such medium of electrolysis naturally circulating within an interspace defined between the electrodes of the cell, said interspace being devoid of physical barrier between said electrodes, (ii) continuously withdrawing therefrom product lithium metal in admixture with the mixture of molten salts, and (iii) continuously discharging undiluted chlorine gas therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4263234
Abstract: Intimate contacting of plural, physically disparate phases is achieved by establishing a current of axially extending, axially symmetrical helical flow of a first phase; separately establishing a current of coaxially extending, rectilinear flow of a physically disparate second phase, the currents of said first and said second phases being maintained physically separated from each other; circulating and directing said currents which comprise the plural phases to a zone of restricted flow passage with respect to said helical flow, whereby said plural currents converge and are intimately, homogeneously admixed and whereat such zone of convergence the momentum of the first phase helical flow is at least 100 times greater than the momentum of the second phase, coaxial rectilinear flow such as to effect atomization via transfer of momentum, and ultimately effecting phase separation of the product of admixture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 1979
Date of Patent: April 21, 1981
    Assignee: Rhone-Poulenc Industries
Inventors: Francois Prudhon, Augustin Scicluna, Jean-Michel Verdier
  • Patent number: 3993734
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of alkali metal polyphosphates having a predetermined crystalline form, in which a mixture of alkali metal orthophosphates having a molar ratio of alkali metal oxide to phosphoric anhydride between 1 and 2 is first granulated, the resulting granules are dried and then are subjected to thermal treatment in the presence of aqueous vapor.
