  • Patent number: 4766894
Abstract: This invention relates to the monitoring of the correct operation of a respirator with single source of energy constituted by a cylinder of pressurized oxygen, to which is annexed a device for connection to a patient. Such monitoring is effected with the aid of a pneumatically operating device which comprises a comparator with adjustable threshold, connected to the mask for connecting to the patient and followed by an amplifier whose output signal takes the binary logic level 1 during the time when the insufflation pressure in the mask is greater than said threshold, and takes the other binary logic level 0 in the opposite case, and a circuit for processing this signal, which triggers off an alarm device if the duration of the time intervals when this latter is at level 1 is too long or too short with respect to a predetermined normal value.

  • Patent number: 4763518
Abstract: A method for measuring the net internal volume of test receptacles each containing an unknown but variable volume of a liquid, such as in testing automatic transmissions containing residual amounts of transmission fluid, to determine the exact volume of fluid needed to be added to fill the transmission to the correct level. The method places a pressurized reference vessel in communication with the internal spaces of a sealed transmission upon opening of a valve allowing the pressure to fall by expansion from the reference vessel into the transmission. The resulting reduced pressure is initially sensed shortly after the valve is opened, and subsequently after a more prolonged interval, allowing the pressure to be substantially stabilized. The receptacle net internal volume is then determined from the relationship between the preliminary pressure in the reference vessel and the stabilized final pressure by application of Boyle's law, and the volume of liquid to be added calculated therefrom.

The carrier ring has an annular ring member formed of a composite material which defines a plurality of radially extending openings, in which openings metallic blade mounting insert members are attached. The blade mounting insert members are retained in assembled relationship with the composite annular ring member by one or more fastening belts which extend around the circumference of the annular ring member in one or more grooves defined by the blade mounting inserts. The fastening belts may be formed by a plurality of turns of a fibrous filament, such as carbon filaments, so as to provide the necessary strength to retain the metallic blade mounting inserts in the composite annular ring member.

  • Patent number: 4740973
Abstract: The invention envisages control devices acting on the laser to vary in time the electron/photon interaction, means proceeding to a State I in which they alter the optimal conditions for laser amplification; and a State II in which that reestablish said optimal conditions, which control devices permit the improvement of the peak amplitude and stability of the laser pulses and the rate and stability of the pulse period. According to another aspect of this invention, the two states are alternated, preferably periodically or almost periodically. The duration of State I should be selected by comparison with the characteristics of the electron packet and, in particular of the relaxation time observed for said packet. If the duration of State II is set to a value to be comparable to or longer than the electron relaxation time, the peak amplitude of the laser pulses is increased. The duration of State II should be selected by comparison with the natural macropulse width.
