    Abstract: A method and apparatus for the reduction of emissions of noxious gases from a carburetor-supplied internal combustion engine for use with an automotive vehicle during periods of deceleration is disclosed. The positioning of one or more butterfly gas valves controlling the flow of gases into the engine is controlled such that during periods of deceleration the gas valves are partially opened in proportion to both the speed of the engine and the level of vacuum in the intake manifold of the engine.
