  • Patent number: 7715206
Abstract: A system comprises a chassis and a system board contained within the chassis. The system board has an edge connector adapted to receive an add-in card in a configuration in which the system board and add-in card are substantially co-planar.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 27, 2007
Date of Patent: May 11, 2010
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Thomas H. Szolyga, Jean-Paul Moiroux
  • Patent number: 7702895
Abstract: A method for configuring a computing system having a processing unit and at least one application subsystem for enabling the processing unit to perform system functions, includes packaging the system processing unit in a first housing, and at least one subsystem of the computing system in a second housing separate from and external to the first housing. The second housing is configured to visibly identify the subsystem contained within. The processing unit and the subsystem are connected with a communication link.

  • Patent number: 7231547
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of operating a data processing system, having a system context, comprising a first storage medium having a current system memory context, which includes data relating to the system context, and a second non-volatile storage medium; the system being operable in a plurality of states, each state having an associated level of system power consumption; and a power management system for saving the current system memory context to the second non-volatile storage medium in preparation for entering at least one of the plurality of states; the method comprising the steps of: storing an indication of whether the system has been shutdown correctly or incorrectly; outputting, during a working state of the plurality of states, data representing at least a portion of the current system memory context for storage on the second storage medium; determining, upon initialisation of the system, from the indication of whether the data processing system was shutdown correctly or incorrectl

  • Publication number: 20050125566
Abstract: A mass storage device, such as a removable hard disk, stores data and has an overall storage capacity. The mass storage device includes a panel on which a capacity indicator is positioned, and the capacity indicator displays either a used storage capacity or a free storage capacity of the mass storage device, or displays both free and used storage capacities of the mass storage device. The capacity indicator may be, for example, one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs), or may be an LED or liquid crystal display indicating percentage of the overall storage capacity of the mass storage device that is used, available, or both. A capacity-update program executing on a computer system of which the mass storage device is a part can update the storage capacity information being displayed, or suitable circuitry or a program within the device itself can update such information.

  • Patent number: 6003105
Abstract: A long-haul PCI bridge pier is provided that comprises a PCI interface for connection to a PCI bus, a high speed link interface for connection to a high speed link, and a PCI adapter operative to transform PCI information received at said PCI interface into high speed information to be transmitted through the high speed interface, and operative to transform high speed information received at said high speed interface into PCI information to be transmitted through the PCI interface. The PCI bridge pier permits remote connection of a PCI bus with a high speed link such as a serial link. Two such PCI bridge piers, in combination with a high speed link may be used for implementing a long haul PCI-to-PCI bridge.
