  • Publication number: 20050000766
Abstract: The technical field of the invention is that of motor vehicle safety involving energy absorption systems for damping the displacement of certain parts that are put into motion at the time of a mechanical collision between the motor vehicle and an externals object. The subject of the present invention relates to an energy absorption system (1) for safety devices in a motor vehicle, comprising a pyrotechnic gas generator (5) and a sliding position (7) that can be displaced in a damping chamber (2), the said generator (5) being able to relaease gas into the said chamber (2) in order to damp the piston (7). The main characteristic of this system (1) is that the gas generator (5) delivers a variable quantity of gas and the damping chamber (2) comprises a pressure-regulating device (4) that is triggered above a threshold pressure.

  • Publication number: 20040134705
Abstract: The present invention relates to a safety device for lifting a bonnet (1) of a motor vehicle in the event of a collision, this device being situated under the said bonnet (1) and comprising a mechanism (2) for lifting the said bonnet (1) and a gas generator (31), the said bonnet (1) comprising a structure allowing it, in normal operation, to be opened or closed about an axis (10) known as the rotation axis. This device is characterized in that it comprises an actuator (3) comprising mechanical means actuated using the said gas generator (31) and able to deploy the said lifting mechanism (2).

  • Publication number: 20030015309
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for continuously casting a metal strip. A casting pool of molten metal is formed, and a metal strip is solidified onto a casting surface. The temperature of the casting surface is maintained above a predetermined critical value. By maintaining the surface temperature above the predetermined critical value, either the heat transfer uniformity or the heat transfer capacity or both are improved.
