  • Patent number: 8505628
Abstract: High solids content slurry, systems and methods. The slurry comprises a carrier fluid and a solids mixture of first, second, third and fourth particle size distribution (PSD) modes wherein the first PSD mode is at least three times larger than the second PSD mode, which is larger than the third PSD mode, which is larger than the fourth PSD mode, and wherein at least one of the second and third PSD modes is less than 3 times larger than the respective third or fourth PSD mode. The method comprises forming the slurry, positioning a screen in a wellbore and circulating the slurry through the wellbore such that the solids mixture is deposited between the screen and the wellbore. The system comprises a pump to circulate the slurry, a workstring to position the screen and means for converting the slurry to a gravel pack.

  • Patent number: 7896067
Abstract: A tool and its operating procedure are provided to protect any device while lowering into a well, and especially hydraulic devices such as sensors with expandable arms or inflatable elements such as packers. The protection is mainly important in the open hole of highly deviated or horizontal wells, for any device equipped with external seal element, delicate sensor or articulated parts. This tool features an automatic sequence controlled by a single dart or a single ball launched into the running string from the surface: when the dart or the ball lands on its seat, the pressure build-up is initially applied to a piston to extract the device from the protector without exposing it to any differential pressure, then it is automatically applied to the device itself for actuation as soon as the device is entirely pulled out of the protector.

  • Patent number: 7398828
Abstract: The problem of fiber or particle settling in well cement slurries is addressed by providing a fluid containing two fiber components of differing properties. Such a well treatment fluid, comprising a base fluid; a first fiber component that it substantially more dense than the base fluid; and a second fiber component that has a density close to that of the base fluid and is relatively flexible.
